Talk:Mixed martial arts weight classes

Can somebody please talk about the penalties in the UFC for exceeding weight? Why do 170 pounders get to routinely weigh in at 171? Is there a penalty for that pound? What happens with someone like Thiago Alves, who has walked in heavy several times? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.9.83.1 (talk) 21:40, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Ultimate Fighter series discussed this issue when they had a guy who was overweight for his class. He found he could not handle cutting and quit the series. If anyone can clarify here please do. To the best of my knowledge within a half pound of required weight is accepted, although I have heard of 1.5 pounds also being used for this. When a fighter is overweight their opponent is not obligated to take the fight but has the option to with a portion of the overweight fighters' purse going to the disadvantaged fighter if the overweight fighter wins. The amount, usually a percentage, is based on how far overweight he/she is.

Any corrections, further details Please feel free. thank-you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.18.207.238 (talk) 04:52, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Weight clases need to show both genders.

edit

Having read the unified rules, I know they show weight classes for both genders. Include both. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.18.207.238 (talk) 04:57, 9 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I saw someone added women's weight classes, but the InvictaFC ones were wrong. I fixed them, though I don't really know where or how to source it since the Invicta page doesn't mention it. But I did watch the stream of the first event, and I know Atomweight is 105 lbs and Strawweight is 115 lbs. Not sure how "Super Flyweight" ended up in there, and I have never heard of such a thing.
