Jackie Turner was not Miss UK 2003 but only Miss England 2003. Nicola Jolly, Miss Scotland 2003 was ranked higher in Miss World and was therefore also given the title of Miss UK 2003.

Just putting this under a subsection. Contrary to what I had said in my earlier post here, I have created an article for Miss Northern Ireland. I think there may also already be articles for Miss Scotland and Miss England (let's see if those links turn blue). --Mal 19:28, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Leilani Dowding

Leilani Dowding says she was "Miss Great Britain" - this article seems to say that Miss UK is Miss GB, but she's not listed here. Something must be amiss. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 02:53, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

I started this article in the hope that the information could be found and filled in totally. I got the initial informatin from this web site: http://www.jimmyspageantpage.com/uk.html. Though I don't know how accurate it may be, I assume the author had gone to some trouble in compiling the list. There may have been some discrepancy - a Miss GB competition may have started up independantly of Miss UK. But it was my intention in this article to include all beauty pageant competitions within the UK - whether they included the whole of the UK or not. If you can verify that Miss Dowding was indeed Miss GB, and that Miss GB was a separate competition from Miss UK .. or if they were the same and there has been an error in the webpage I got the info from, feel free to correct it or add a section for Miss GB winners etc. I intend to eventually include Miss NI, Miss Scotland... etc etc in the article under separate sections. I don't see the need to create different articles for each of the regions of the UK. The upshot is: help if you can mate. :) --Mal 14:38, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Okay...basically, Miss GB and Miss UK are two completely separate entities. Miss UK was a contest to select a representative to Miss World. But now since each region (Scotland, England, Wales, and Nor. Ireland) is allowed to compete at Miss World, there is no need for the Miss UK contest. However to select a girl for Miss International, the highest placing British candidate instantly gets the title of "Miss UK". Miss GB, on the other hand, is a pageant still in existence which used to send girls to Miss Universe, up until 2000. Leilani Dowding held the title of Miss Great Britian Universe 1998, and competed in the Miss Universe 1998 pageant in Hawaii. She is a legitimate Miss GB. Today, the organization sends its contestants to Miss Tourism World, a third-rate international pageant. Today, the Miss Universe contestant is selected through castings under the "Miss Universe UK". That's not entirely correct. The highest placed British contestant in the Miss World competition automatically becomes Miss United Kingdom. --Mal 05:21, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Would somebody who understands all this please fix the intro. For example, United Kingdom isn't linked but Great Britain has a wikilink in the most bizarre of places. Also, this doesn't make a lot of sense to me: "From the start, contest was known as the Miss Great Britain Pageant, but this was changed in 1960 to include Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland." Wales and Scotland are part of Great Britain are they not? It's also gramatically incorrect, of course. I would change this myself but I don't know anything about the topic (except to say Leilani is babe goodness!!) --kingboyk 11:00, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

MOre confusion

Valerie Susan Holmes apparently won Miss Britain, leading to winnning Miss International 1969. But this is not the same as miss UK apparently. Rich Farmbrough, 11:07 1 March 2007 (GMT). Possibly Miss Great Britain. Rich Farmbrough, 11:11 1 March 2007 (GMT).
