Radio Personalities

Some of the radio personalities are already listed (and, I would think, properly so) on Wikipedia's article for WEFM (USA); they really don't need to be added to the city article... Xenophon777 21:17, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Famous People

Question: Is the current mayor of a city--any city--always ipso facto a "famous person" and notable? Should all cities' articles on Wikipedia be updated to include the current mayor (and maybe past mayors? candidates? aldermen/-women?) How about current town council members of towns which are rural county seats? I know I'm seeming like a bit of a crank here, but are all mayors always "notable" and "famous people"? The fact that he was a six-term mayor is pretty darned notable. • I disagree. Other than that he may have served as mayor some time ago (even six times) doesn't tell us much of anything. It doesn't make him famous. It's not like listing John Wayne among famous people in an article on Winterset, Iowa, or listing Eli H. Janney in an article on Loudoun County, Virginia. Even the source you cite largely describes a ten-year-old boy's little adventures and things that happened during his tenure--not what he himself did that was notable outside Michigan City. If there is something important to this, you could, perhaps, consider working something into a Michigan City history section, if there is something to say, if one can point to something that he did which was significant to the history of Michigan City. However, to cite someone as one of the "Famous People" from Michigan City, it seems to me, suggests that there was something famous about the person in his or her own right. If we listed all mayors of New York City under famous people, the listing would lose meaning. Unless there's something special about Krueger, other than that he'd once been mayor, I'd again suggest that he's not exactly famous and should not be listed here. In Michigan City, there is a lodge, a park, a middle school, a street, and a neighborhood association named for Mayor Krueger. Within the city itself, he is famous. If you were going to visit Michigan City, he is someone you should know. If you want to know about the development of the city, he is also someone you need to know. In addition, since there is no other list titled "Notable People" for Michigan City, this seems the most reasonable place to place him.2lakes (talk) 19:40, 8 March 2008 (UTC) So I created a section titled "Leading Citizens of Michigan City," to catalogue those important people. Abijah Bigelow

I noted the source, http://www.mclib.org/people.htm#abijah , which was used to suggest inclusion of Abijah Bigelow here. Oddly enough, the Wikipedia article for Abijah Bigelow makes it clear that that Abijah Bigelow stayed in, died in, and was buried in, Massachusetts. The article cites a reference in the Biographical Dictionary of the United States at http://bioguide.congress.gov/scripts/biodisplay.pl?index=B000453 in support of its position. AGF, etc., my assumption is that these are, in fact, different people. Can anyone shed light on this? Xenophon777 (talk) 14:56, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Leading Citizens

I don't see the point of the creation of a "Leading Citizens" section in an encyclopedia. Presumably the reason for the creation of this section was to have a place to put people who aren't exactly "famous." But, then, why list them? Does this really add anything? If you want to say somethign about Elston, as a found, why not simply mention his achievements or role, along with his name, in the History section? Similarly, if Krueger is so important, why not bring out his achievements and iomportance in the history section? If it doesn't belong there, why does it belong at all? Leading citizens are subject to change constantly, and are actually not especially notable, unless famous for some other reason. I've lived in Michigan City all my life, and don't know of anyone that I would consider a, "leading citizen." In a way it is just an opinion, I may consider someone a leading citizen that you may not, therefor the leading citizen section is pointless in my opinion(jburnum (talk) 12:32, 9 September 2009 (UTC))

Government

I added the government section. It's pretty rudimentary -- the name and swearing in date of the current mayor, and basic info on the town council. Noting the discussion above on current mayors, how much more info is needed here? I do think that the name of the current mayor is relevant information but that the names of town council members might be overkill. A map of city wards might be useful. I, for one, would see no objection to listing the current mayor, for example, in a section on the municipal government (whether called that or not)... just not in a section called "famous people". Michiana?

Marijuana legality

Someone has wrongly stated that marijuana is legal in Michigan City Indiana; it is not. Marijuana and medical marijuana, so called Delta 9 products are illegal in the entire state of Indiana. This article is spreading false information. This will lead to some unfortunate circumstances for anyone who takes this seriously. There is no citation, because it is false. Once again, marijuana and marijuana products are illegal in the entire state of Indiana.
