Potential move
editGiven the recent nomination of Michael S. Regan (the current head of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality) to lead the USEPA, and thet fact that the environmental official is widely known simply as Michael Regan, I would argue that the American deserves this page. This page can be moved to "Michael Regan (Australian politician)" Narayansg (talk) 22:02, 17 December 2020 (UTC)
First Mayor of Northern Beaches Council
editHi Sieg... It is correct the elected members powers for the newly created Northern Beaches Council were initially granted to an Administrator. I don't agree with the title 'first' or '1st' having a predecessor. How can the first of anything have a predecessor? That heading in the infobox is misleading and shouldn't be used for this reason. I note is is clearly stated in the body that DP was the Administrator for the new northern beaches council. (DP wasn't appointed Mayor). CamV8 (talk) 01:08, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
- This really is splitting hairs, but it is perfectly correct and proper for the numbering system (and successions) to work like that. It's how the Lord Mayor of Sydney and mayors of Warringah are done. 1st refers to the specific title given (i.e. mayor) and the mayor holds pretty much the same responsibilities of the administrator (with an elected council of course) hence having him succeed Dick persson. Plus it is also how he is referred in the media and by council: "Michael Regan was last night elected as the first Mayor of Northern Beaches Council", "MICHAEL REGAN has been elected as the first mayor of the Northern Beaches Council".Siegfried Nugent (talk) 06:27, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
I agree with the logic, as you have suggested. Regan is the first mayor of nbc. Therefore DP cannot precede the first mayor, as DP was not a mayor. Can I also suggest this is not important to this article about Regan. Perhaps it would be better suited in the Warringah, Pittwatter, Manly and NBC articles, where it would be more relevant to the governance of the council areas. I note the Lord Mayor of Sydney is not a BLP, this article is a WP:BLP and should be strictly adhered to. This needs to be tidied up! CamV8 (talk) 13:44, 30 September 2017 (UTC)
- Err no it doesn't, it makes no sense to not have him succeed Dick Persson, as that it clearly what has happened. It is how they have been listed elsewhere, and there is no established consensus for your changing it. So don't make your change until this has been set here.Siegfried Nugent (talk) 00:47, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- Poor attempts at making changes aside, I can see the merit of removing Persson as succeeding Regan in the Warringah succession, as it's not entirely direct. This I have now done.Siegfried Nugent (talk) 00:57, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
- I'll also bring you back to the above Manly Daily article, which clearly reference what I am talking about: "The former Warringah mayor — who takes over from administrator Dick Persson for the second time — said the State Government needed to fix the area’s existing problems before any more development comes in."Siegfried Nugent (talk) 01:01, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
