Wrong Title??
editthis article is kind of weird, because it actually doesn't cover anything about the membrane topology (e.g. forms, shapes, curvature, etc.) but it describes computational methods for the prediction of transmembrane domains of proteins and prediction methods of protein orientation within a bilayer. I didnt see any other article on membrane topology; but membrane topology is encyclopedically important. So it seems this article is intended for membrane topology but lacking details on membrane topology. RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 09:11, 30 July 2020 (UTC)
Whatever I totally agree the current version of this article is confusing as its tiltle suggest membrane topology but discusses solely about a small fraction of it (membrane protein topology) RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 09:15, 30 July 2020 (UTC)

Membrane topology and Membrane protein topology isn't same thing
editMembrane topology is topology of the membrane. It is how the membrane system itself related with its own other parts, and how it creates the partitions within the cell. How the inner leaflet of golgi vesicle continues with outer leaflet of plasma membrane and that sort of thing.
Current version of this article intensely focuses on membrane protein topology. But membrane topology and membrane protein topology aren't the same thing (although they are related). Also to discuss membrane topology, membrane lipid composition in different leaflet is an important thing. So this article needs to be expanded with details of membrane topology and composition of membrane lipid etc.

- membrane topology of protein: positions of parts of a membrane protein in or outside the membrane
- membrane topology: shape of membrane
- membrane protein topology: shape of membrane protein
- the first is the most used by far and should be topic of the article. --SCIdude (talk) 08:57, 5 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, these are completely different things, but the expression "membrane topology" is used almost exclusively to describe topology of membrane proteins. Can you give a couple of specific references like review articles where the topology of biological membranes would be discussed. Perhaps there are some. If there are such refs, this page should be split. My very best wishes (talk) 03:19, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
