Theater/Theatre
edit(Yes, this should be on an editor's talk page, but the editor in question is an IP.) "Theater" is not a misspelling on the page. It is the American spelling. (Thank you, Mr. Webster.) The US and UK are "separated by a common language". On Wikipedia, to avoid disputes, we generally stick with the English (UK, US, Canadian, etc.) found in the original version of the article, unless the topic is distinctly related to a particular country. You will read about neither the "colours" in the US flag, nor the "colors" in the Union Jack. This article, in its short life has used the US spelling and is about an American. US English stays here. Thanks. - Mdsummermsw (talk) 17:26, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
imdb
editimdb is not a reliable source. While wikipedia does list it as an external link, we list it for the topic of the article (in this case, Martin), not related topics (individual movies/tv shows). I am removing all but Martin's imdb link. - Mdsummermsw (talk) 20:00, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Sources
editThis article still needs reliable sources. Over the next few days, I will be pruning this article down to very basic facts, yanking nearly all of the unsourced info. If you want to keep any of the other info, source it. (Dispute? Please see WP:PROVEIT.) - Mdsummermsw (talk) 20:00, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
"unsourced" stuff which is trivial to verify
editI have tagged a good bit of biographical material as needing cites. I am told this is "trivial to verify" but have been unable to find a reliable source for any of it. I'll let it sit for a while, then delete it again if it has not yet found a reliable source. - SummerPhD (talk) 18:47, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Did you look at the site the article identifies as her official site? Citations are only needed for material likely to be challenged. Unless there are reasons to doubt the info, such as the site is a fansite or the subject is making self-serving statements or there are sources for contrary info, basic biographic info from the subject's site need not be removed. Gimmetrow 19:48, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- It seems there's a reason for wanting sources. Using the source you mentioned, I've added cites for some of the info, corrected and cited some of the info and removed some of the rest. Some was right, some was wrong, some we don't know. Now the info that remains is verifiable and cited. The system worked. - SummerPhD (talk) 20:54, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps, but how often has basic biographical info been removed without good reason, and nobody noticed? Gimmetrow 13:03, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Unsourced info, as in this case, may or may not be correct, but it is never verifiable. - SummerPhD (talk) 17:57, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

No consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 05:33, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
Meaghan Jette Martin → Meaghan Martin – I think her name sholud be Meaghan Martin because it is mentioned in many places such as Meaghan Martin IMDb and in the credit of Mean Girls 2. Hoangquan hientrang (talk) 05:46, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. A google news archive search reveals 931 hits for "Meaghan Jette Martin", compared to only 507 for "Meaghan Martin". Jenks24 (talk) 11:36, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Requested move
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved as requested, no objections in two weeks. Dekimasuよ! 00:18, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Meaghan Jette Martin → Meaghan Martin – WP:COMMONNAME may have moved away from her middle name at this point. Please comment below with any arguements. (note: there have been three page moves against consensus in the past week, starting this discussion to see if it should be renamed or remain intact). --Relisted. - My unweighted Google search for "meaghan martin" actress returns ~45,900 pages, while a search for "meaghan jette martin" actress returns ~219,000. However, this is misleading because some number of the latter are pages that syndicate or have outright stolen the text of the Wikipedia article on Ms. Martin. To try to offset this I excluded pages that include a fairly unique phrase from the article, making the search phrase: "meaghan jette martin" actress -"performed for her Showteam and later made her professional". I received only ~14,000 pages in my result set. To keep the playing field level, I repeated the same search without her middle name: "meaghan martin" actress -"performed for her Showteam and later made her professional" and received a result set of ~27,500 pages. Since the difference is significant, I'd say it's safe to conclude that she is more typically mentioned (in sources that are independent of Wikipedia and have not used its copy) without her middle name. Your mileage may vary. Dwpaul Talk 03:34, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Objection to undiscussed (copy and paste) move 16 October 2014
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- This was not a request to move; it was an objection to an undiscussed move.
Meaghan Jette Martin → Meaghan Martin – Against consensus – Dwpaul Talk 23:20, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:02, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
- As Yaksar noted on 10/14, IP 110.159.56.26 previously (on 10.13) performed this move (as c/p) against long-time consensus recorded on the Talk page and was moved back that day. IP 60.52.86.126 (who has the same Malaysian network provider) has now repeated the move and blanked the associated Talk page. Dwpaul Talk 23:20, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
- I have closed and unlisted this section. This was not a proposed move, it was an technical objection to a (copy and paste) move that had been performed without discussion. It was reverted without further discussion by Bongwarrior so does not require debate here. Dwpaul Talk 17:43, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
