Dawkins review
editI'm reinstating the Dawkins review, not only because it is an actual writing sample of Robinson, but also because it is representative of some of her larger concerns as a writer. Icarus of old 04:43, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Age
editSeveral other sources list Robinson's birthdate as 1943, not 1947. For instance: http://www.ncteamericancollection.org/litmap/robinson_marilynne_id.htm and this NYT article refers to her as having been 37 in 1980: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/24/magazine/24ROBINSON.html?_r=1&oref=slogin; also http://www.washington.edu/uwired/outreach/cspn/Website/Hist%20n%20Lit/Part%20Five/Commentary/Robinson%20Comm.html, and http://www.cas.sc.edu/engl/LitCheck/robinson_m.htm, and http://www.bookrags.com/Marilynne_Robinson Kylegann (talk) 23:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Many sources give 1944. Little biographical detail about her seems to be on the Net. It would be good if someone could find her year and date of birth, and some more biographical info.Alpheus (talk) 22:59, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Revisiting this topic, I find (in June 2009) that there are numerous sources on the web for both 1943 and 1947. (Adding to the complication is that there was a different person, a religious scholar named Marilyn Robinson Waldman (1943-1996), who also shows up in searches for "Marilynne Robinson".[1]) The copyright filings I found at copyright.gov generally don't have any birthdate shown, except for this one for 1943[2]. Lacking a definitive statement of birthyear, I've included both of them with a sample source for each.--Arxiloxos (talk) 15:07, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Back to writing
edit"Mother Country" is an unblinking indictment of social injustice. In it, Robinson publicly quit writing in order to devote her time to ending nuclear technology. Did she, actually, ever quit writing? Or did she come back to writing with "Death of Adam"? I don't know the story of how she started writing again, if she ever stopped. It's something I was looking for on this page and couldn't find. --ESP (talk) 14:45, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Picture
editI've been trying to find a free-content picture of her, but am a newbie to all of this. Is there someone with more experience who could find one? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oaktree19 (talk • contribs) 01:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I looked on Flickr, but the images don't have the right copyright. There are non-free images that you could ask the user to change to a copyright license that we can use. See my userpage for more info. Thanks. --CutOffTies (talk) 02:10, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I noticed there wasn’t a picture on this article, so I took a few during her April 2012 appearance at the Festival of Faith and Writing at Calvin College, and have donated it as public domain to Wikimedia Commons, and included it on this page. Cheers! --Cshbell (talk) 18:24, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
