In the early 1960s, rumors of a secret relationship between Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe and President John F. Kennedy swirled behind the glamorous façade of the era. Their brief encounters were kept far from the public eye, but close friends and confidants hinted at a deep connection.
One evening, after a discreet meeting in 1961, Kennedy surprised Monroe with a gift—an elegant black 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL. The car, with its pristine white interior, was a symbol of the President’s admiration for the actress. Marilyn was said to be thrilled by the luxurious gesture, a token of affection from one of the most powerful men in the world.
However, as a lover of the spotlight and a fan of personalization, Marilyn had the car repainted white, reflecting her iconic sense of style. The car became one of her prized possessions, a secret memento of her connection with Kennedy. Sadly, their love affair remained hidden in the shadows, and after Marilyn’s untimely death in 1962, her half-sister, Berniece Baker Miracle, quietly inherited the 190SL.
Berniece, living far from the Hollywood spotlight, chose to keep the car in her garage for the next 60 years, a private reminder of her famous sister and the enigmatic relationship she had with one of America's most beloved presidents.
Berniece passed away May 25, 2014 and the 190SL was sold to a private collector. 75.82.190.83 (talk) 15:03, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Also. Not done. No reliable sources provided. Shearonink (talk) 15:39, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
Thumbnail image
editHi. Upon close examination of the thumbnail image of this article, I've noticed that it is slightly grainy and is taken of Marilyn from a side angle. Furthermore, it has been the same for a long while. Could we consider changing it to a clearer image that presents a better view of Marilyn's face? Here are some potential candidates if you think this is a good idea.
1. File:Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsThis is my personal favorite because 1) it is not grainy at all, 2) it is colorized, and 3) it presents a clear view of Marilyn's face from the front.
2. File:Marilyn Monroe, Photoplay 1953.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsAn equally clear shot, though I think an editor on Commons was concerned about the copyright of the image. I could be wrong.
3. File:Monroe in Niagara (1953 publicity photo).jpg - Wikimedia CommonsThis is a clear, very well-known photo, albeit not colorized.
4. File:Marilyn Monroe (1961).jpg - Wikimedia CommonsPerhaps the most recent photo with a decently clear view of Marilyn's face, but not the highest quality...plus, her eyes are half-closed.
5. File:Marilyn Monroe 1953 crop.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsI like this photo, but it's not colorized.
6. File:Monroe 1953 publicity.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsIt's clear, but not colorized.
7. File:Marilyn Monroe 1952.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsClear, but not colorized.
8. File:Portrait of young Marilyn Monroe, black and white.jpg - Wikimedia CommonsThis one is clear, but not colorized and doesn't seem to portray the Marilyn most people know.
Thank you. Please let me know what you think! If there are any other images you think would be suitable, please include them. CallieCrewmanAuthor (talk) 04:09, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

- The best options in my opinion are the first two proposals (with a preference for the latter) and Monroe 1953 publicity.jpg. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 23:44, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- 1, 2, and 5 seem like they work best to me. I personally prefer 5 most, but if I had to choose from one of the two colorized options, I would go for 2. Thanks for tagging me! AVL·JVVENTIŌ·CINNĀ 05:14, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for tagging me and discussing about the possible upcoming changes to the info-box image, I appreciate that. I would actually agree with you that I never liked the info-box image that much since I've discovered this article in 2022 and started editing the main article in April 2024. I've had a look at the revisions and the info-box image was used since the late 2010s. I would agree with @Juventiuscinna that images 1, 2 and 5 suite the info-box image as the quality of the images are great. File:Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire.jpg was briefly used as the info-box image in August 2024 and File:Marilyn Monroe, Photoplay 1953.jpg briefly used as the info-box image from May-July 2024 having a look at the main article's revision, but were changed without a discussion. Thanks. PEPSI697 (💬 • 📝) 05:34, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oh wow, thanks for tagging me! Yeah, I agree that I particularly like 1, 2 and 5, and if I had to choose from one of them, I'd choose 2. EdgarCabreraFariña (talk) 10:07, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Second photo is beautiful in color, but a bit too sultry. I prefer the sixth, sultry and awake and very attractive. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sultry not needed in the opening image. Monroe was an actress playing a multi-film character role that she created. This page is mainly about the actress, not the character. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:48, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Keep as is and malformed section. There was no call for a change of image nor notices sent to Wikiprojects and other interested editors aside from those selectively pinged, surprisingly the present long-term image isn't even among the photos selected for consideration, and the op is asking everyone to distractingly click back and forth to see the photos. The long-term image has received discussion before and been kept, and this discussion should be closed and, if an interest to go ahead is still there, consensus should probably first be sought for changing the image before an actual choice is made. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:44, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oops! To use a Swenglish expression: Diss wåss wördsh änd nå bälladss. Means: That's apt to shut us up.
- But let's say a lot of us think the image could be a better one, showing her beauty and skill as an actress, without her boobs in that tight sweater. What constructive method would you suggest, Boss, re (quote you:) "consensus should probably first be sought for changing the image" besides recommending all these? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:51, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! I apologize if my message was disruptive. I did not mean to cause any kind of inconvenience for anyone. I only wanted to see if anyone shared my desire to change the thumbnail image, and if so, if they like any of the photos I suggested. If we're not allowed to change it, I understand, but if we can, that'd be great. Thanks, CallieCrewmanAuthor (talk) 02:54, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'd suggest, if you believe a change is really needed, to create a full RfC by actually showing the images, labeling them (A to Z or something), and include the present image as one of the choices in the selection process. That would be a way to go about requesting an image change, with the images easily seen during the discussion. In other image-change discussion I remember that after a certain amount of time the choices are narrowed down after editors have had their say and ranked their choices. I'd probably "vote" for either the present image or the Photoplay cover (labeled 2 above) Randy Kryn (talk) 03:19, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
