Just a note: it would be interesting to read The Good Neighbor: The life and work of Fred Rogers. According to a Nature book review by Heidi Ledford, she says that "The book is very much a popular biography. At times jumpy and repetitive, it focuses heavily on anecdotes about McFarland’s life and work, without giving enough heft to the theory.".
Also, see Tittnich, Ethel (20 October 2008). "Epigraph: Margaret McFarland, PhD". Journal of Children in Contemporary Society: ix–x. doi:10.1300/J274v21n01_a.
