Stasi controversy
editIn 1998, the german democrat Uwe Lehmann-Brauns called him "... an inoffical employee/informer (Inoffizieller Mitarbeiter) for 20 years in the service of the east-german Stasi while also serving as a high offical in the Evangelical Churches of the GDR."
This resulted in an lenghty legal battle between Stolpe and Lehmann-Brauns leadinding all the way to the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany, (Bundesverfassungsgericht) in October 2005. In a, since then debatted, dession, the court rouled, that in case Az: BvR 1696/98 Stolpe could not be called an IM.
The department of Stasi-files (Stasi-Unterlagenbehörde) quickly responded, that the courts dession was purely case specific.
Futher more, that the department, in an 1992 investigation (later backed up by findings in 2003) had concluded, that allthough he may not have been aware of it, he was from Februar 1970 filled as IM „Sekretär“. Files over 20 years categized Sekretär "... as an important IM on matters refering to the evangelical church of East-germany."
Aditionaly, critics claim, that he probaly did not reseved the Service medal of the GDR (Verdienstmedaille der DDR) in 1878 acidently.
Stolpe himself allwasys denied having reseved payments from the Stasi or worked behind the back of the church. Allthough he was in frequent contact with the Stasi, these where only intended to the benefit of the members of the church.

President or Premier?
editThe intro says he was Minister President from 1990 to 2002, while the bio says that he was Premier for the same period. Which is correct? Editrite! (talk) 10:38, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
- Both are fine translations of Ministerpräsident. - I'll look at it later today, busy right now. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:53, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
