As a child watching these, I always got the impression that it was MTS herself that owned and lived in the house. certainly didn't consider the cartoons racist, though then again, being a kid, I didn't consider or know about the concept at all ^^

Still think it's a shame they removed her, she was one of my favorite characters, her and Jerry's Cousin Muscles I think his name was. 87.232.1.88 22:39, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

In european countries like Poland, where I live, MTS are normally woman without racist tone. Maybe therefore that in our country never was African slavery (I don't know how this to name). And Tom & Jerry series is not edited! 83.30.47.234 (talk) 20:06, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Lack of world view - need to explain context of censorship etc

This article lacks a world view. I'm British with little knowledge of American history (at school we studied American history on a Wednesday afternoon... just the one afternoon). In particular, the UK has never had apartheid, seperation nor rules preventing black people from being seen on film or TV. Can someone please edit the article to explain:

• Why did the industry think there was a need for Mammy's character to be censored for TV the 1960s?
• Why does the industry think that a white fat character is more acceptable than a black fat character in Tom and Jerry Tales (2006-)?

Was called "The Maid" in Britain - and fully appeared in the comic strips

She was called `The Maid' in Britain whenever referred to. (The race argument about her in Britain merely mirrors that in The US). In the 1970's Tom And Jerry used to appear as a comic-strip in Look In magazine (a TV listings magazine for young people) and she was also called The Maid in that. Petunia from Superkatt

Should Petunia the house owner in Dan Gordon's Giggle comic book series "Superkatt" be included in the first paragraph? Petunia is in many ways like Mammy: Same appearance, same bad temper and same pronunciation. Just thought it needed looking into. Deltasim (talk) 17:53, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

• According to Walt Disney's Comic and Stories Edition #5 (Dell, 1941), Mammy is called Mamba in "The Pantry Pirate"

Bosko's Mother

In the final three Bosko cartoons from MGM, Bosko is seen with Mammy Two Shoes ~ voiced by Linda Randolph. In these shorts, she is his mother, a fact even alluded to in the Christmas episode of Tom & Jerry tales, where "White Mammy" or Mrs. Two Shoes has a picture on the fireplace mantle with her son and a husband.

The three shorts are Lil' Ol' Bosko and the Cannibals, Bosko and the Pirates and Bosko in Baghdad. Someone needs to address this.

Also, Mammy is never mentioned as being a "Housemaid" in any of the Tom & Jerry shorts. Ever. Not even in the uncensored prints.

She has no master to answer to in those cartoons, and there is no media stating otherwise. That is her house, her cat, her dishes and in Saturday Evening Puss, her jewelry.

There is absolutely media stating that Mammy has a master (or rather, employer). The 1940s Tom and Jerry comic books portray Mammy with the name "Dinah," and she often discusses the white homeowners for whom she works. Later (1949), she is recast without comment as the owner of the house, but only after many years of being the maid and being referred to as such.

Also, while they were not seen by the general public, Hanna and Barbera's storyboards and promotional materials for the Tom and Jerry cartoons say "the maid" in reference to Mammy.

As for her being Bosko's mom—yes, she seems to be. But I'm not sure quite how epic this discovery actually is... Ramapith (talk) 06:44, 11 July 2013 (UTC)

Clobber

[Clobber], whose face would turn bright red, and often derived great glee in doing so, was more graphically brutal in punishing Tom's mistakes as compared to Mammy Two Shoes ....

Taken literally, this sentence says that Clobber's face took glee in turning red. Is that intended? —Tamfang (talk) 06:13, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
