Accordingly, the material may be rewritten, but only if it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:22, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
- Good work; properly done except wow, some thirty revisions were subjected to Wikipedia:Revision deletion? Clearly it didn't go so far as to be abusive, but perhaps some of those versions could have been left available. Jim.henderson (talk) 13:36, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is in the risk of inadvertent restoration; the copyright infringement was prominent in every one of those revisions. If any of them are visible, they might as well all be. :) Prior to revision deletion, this would have been handled by deleting the article and restoring only those edits prior to the insertion of the copyrighted content: this version, in this case. Revision deletion is superior for a couple of reasons, including that we can retain content added after the insertion point that did not violate copyright because the list of contributors is intact and that the record of contribution is retained, even if the content is not immediately accessible. It's a lot easier for an admin investigating somebody's contributions to view the revision deleted diff than to pull up the specific diff in the deleted versions. And on the chance that the copyright holder should choose to release the content, it will be a simple matter to flip the switch and bring them back to full visibility. ---Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:54, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanation. You admins sure do keep busy, at least some of you, walking various fine lines between too much and too little and sometimes spelling things out for casual inquirers. Keep up the good work. Jim.henderson (talk) 14:46, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
