Talk:Lists of science and technology awards

Splitting out sublists

edit

This list is rather large. I propose to break out some of the longer sections, e.g. Mathematics, into separate articles like "List of mathematics awards", and structure these as sortable lists like:

Award Sponsor Country Notes
Abdus Salam Award International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Pakistan chapter) Pakistan
Abel Prize Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters Norway
Adams Prize University of Cambridge United Kingdom
... ... ... ...

I would leave {{main}} pointers to the new sub-lists, so this article would evolve towards a list of lists. Sortability would make the sub-lists more useful. Some of them may naturally be broken down into sub-sub-lists, and may also benefit from introductions and backmatter. They would fit more precisely into the category structure and would be easier to link to (section links are not very reliable). I cannot see any value in listing all the science and technology awards in one article: if someone is looking for the Xyz Award and is not sure what it is about, they will find it through a simple search for "Xyz Award".

Any concerns? Aymatth2 (talk) 14:02, 5 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Since there were no objections, I have started splitting out sections. I think the smaller lists will be more manageable, and will support more information, while this list will remain as an index. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:13, 12 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Awards given by the Geochemical Society

edit

Which list would be the best place for the V. M. Goldschmidt Award, an award given by the Geochemical Society for achievements in the fields of geochemistry and cosmochemistry? It looks like the F.W. Clarke Medal (another award given by the society) is on both the List of geology awards and List of earth sciences awards, but it could also potentially go on the List of chemistry awards. Bit of a tricky one! Aluxosm (talk) 10:38, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
