editSemantics: surely the title should be, "List of ranking Snooker tournaments"? Henrik Erlandsson 21:35, 12 December 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by HenrikErlandsson (talk • contribs)
- It's natural to talk about "ranking tournaments" and "world rankings" so it seems a little unnatural to me to split these phrases into "ranking snooker tournaments" and "world snooker rankings".However I take your point, the golf rankings are called the Official World Golf Ranking not the Official Golf World Ranking. Note regarding major change to the main table
edit@Nigej: On 11 June 2023, I updated the main table, changing the flagicons to flagathletes, and fixed the sorting so that it worked for Chinese names. I also (perhaps misguidedly) abbreviated the tournament names and changed the age values to years only in an attempt to make the table narrower. At the same time I moved the column notes from the bottom of the table into a new legend table above, and corrected a few minor errors. I have not looked at this article since, until a couple of days ago.
It now transpires that an IP user (2A06:C701:9CDD:4E00:DF9:2645:1C08:7EE5) on 1 October 2023, reverted all my work, the only edit made from this IP address, with the note: "Returned to the more detailed version." On checking I found that the sorting did not now work at all (mainly because the horrible flagicons make it sort by nation) and the errors I had corrected were all back in again. Clearly somebody didn't like the abbreviations!
So - I've now been through and done it all again, but this time without abbreviating the tournament names or the age values (not wanting to annoy anybody), and the sorting now works properly again. I've also given the table a "sticky header" which is a very useful trick for tables of this size.
There is one thing you need to be aware of, Nigej, since it seems to be mainly yourself who updates this table after each ranking tournament. In order to make the sorting work properly for the numbers in parentheses, those numbers need to be entered twice, for the sort-value and for the display. As an example, for entry number 409 we need to have: ||data-sort-value="Trump, Judd, 15"|{{flagathlete|[[Judd Trump]]|ENG}} {{small|(15)}} , so the "15" is entered twice. I chose this entry (409) as an example since it was incorrectly entered as "12".
Hope this helps. Alan (talk) 17:55, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
