death angel and the other 3 artists listed below are 4 of the hardest punk bands around. ur fuckin high if u think otherwise. also billy idol was never punk but always some form of ROCK. E.G. Hard Rock or Classic Rock in todays "modern music." you have ur head so far up your ass you cant even HEAR the difference between rock and punk. its people like you that allow the music industry to fail and sign people like lady gagme and promote the decline of western civilization. i hope you die, sincerely, your lord and master, Foamy the squirrel. bitch.

Concerning Joan Jett

edit

I found an article that might strengthen her stance in punk culture:

Shouldn't it be Joan Jett and The Blackhearts since it's a list of punk "bands" ? LPfreak101 (talk) 10:42, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Missing

there is an awful lot of key bands missing.--KBM worker (talk) 01:38, 24 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Flatliners

edit

They're a punk band according to wikipedia and also according to punknews.org, who are signed to fat wreck chords and they should therefore be added to the list.LPfreak101 (talk) 08:07, 21 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Add 'em. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 06:47, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I was also wondering about adding Alexisonfire since they're melodic hardcore and also referred to as a punk band quite often. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LPfreak101 (talkcontribs) 15:47, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article protected

edit

Since people here don't seem to be able to resolve their differences on their own, I've protected the article for a week. I don't care what the consensus is on this (my taste in music, Rush, Cryptopsy, Into Eternity and Death Angel are about as far from punk as one can get in modern music), but the edit warring needs to stop. Work it out here.

While I am here, I would also like to say that the flag icons should really be removed. WP:Manual of Style/Icons clearly says "Do not emphasize nationality without good reason", and I can't see any discernible purpose to do so here. These groups aren't in battle of the bands competitions pitted against one another according to nationality, so I really don't get why the flag icons are in. If I hadn't just protected the page, I would have boldly removed them, but I recognize that it wouldn't be fair to non-admins if I did that. The flags are a common practice in these types of articles --Guerillero | My Talk 02:04, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
If they were actually communicating some useful information (a la Olympic competition articles), I'd be fine with that, but I don't see the point in having them here. But I'm persuadable; if you think this belongs at WT:MOSICON, I'll move it there. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:37, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Outside opinion. The dispute is over the inclusion of 311 (band). That band's infobox reads "Alternative rock, reggae rock, rap rock, funk rock, hard rock" for genres. In the "Musical style" section of the article there is a sentence reading "Various writers and critics define 311 by a number of genres. They are generally known as an alternative rock band, but they are also classified as rap rock, rap metal, funk rock, funk metal, ska punk, reggae and jazz fusion." sourced by Allmusic (a search for "punk" using my browser returns zero results), Rhapsody (even after clicking the "More" button to expand the biog my browser again returns zero results), and Rolling Stone. Archived version of the Rolling Stone article returns zero results for punk. So the claim in the 311 article isn't sourced, even if it could be it'd probably me some minor viewpoint that they are in fact punk, and so they wouldn't belong in a "List of punk rock bands" because they are not generally seen as punk rock. Or is that too much like common sense? 2 lines of K303 10:59, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

It would, unless you go back into the edit history, and see that the same user removed ska-punk from listed genres.Jasper420 21:12, 26 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I can see why Astrotube is getting pissed off with you. There is the edit you are talking about (and just FYI there is me removing a claim not in the sources), it only removes the genre not any associated sources because there aren't any. As I've already pointed out, none of the sources cited in the relevant section claim they are punk. You've been editing over four years and don't know Wikipedia cannot source itself??? There are no sources in the 311 article or in this article claiming they are punk, I'm filing an edit request to remove them. 2 lines of K303 10:37, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

The band 311 should be removed from this list because they are not, nor have they ever been a "ska punk" band. Aside from personal experience with band members, they cite only their roots as ska punk. Bands like The Specials, The Selecter, or even Sublime and No Doubt for that matter if you need modern day examples. They are a great rock band with many varied roots and ska punk is certainly one of them. However, they have never been a band that falls under that category. They've never had an album with a punk song on it.

I'd also like to request that the user making modifications to keep them here desist in continually adding them back in.

Thank you!

  • sigh* No, this will not happen. In fact that's why I requested this in the first place. because vandals like you constantly edit this page, thinking that their opinion matters on Wikipedia, when in fact, it does not, and never will. Jasper420 01:22, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Not done. You need to get consensus on this; that's why I protected the page in the first place. See WP:DR if you're having problems (this isn't directed at one person specifically). The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 02:43, 25 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Please remove 311 from this article. Per my comment here there are no sources in the relevant section of the 311 article that says they are punk, and no sources in this article either. The inclusion in this article seemed to be based solely on the 311 article having the since-removed unsourced claim they were punk, and Wikipedia can't source itself. Since consensus can't override policy, 311 should be removed per WP:V. 2 lines of K303 10:40, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not done The page is no longer protected. Please gain consensus before making controversial changes. Danger High voltage! 11:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
