The old "List of mountains in Pakistan" now redirects to this one
editThe names of the articles should be "initcap", it should be "List of Mountains in Pakistan" rather than "List of mountains in Pakistan". So I've created this page List of Mountains in Pakistan moving all the text from the old one. The old page List of mountains in Pakistan now redirects to this new one (List of Mountains in Pakistan).
- That was the clearest possible breach of policy and I am requesting a move back. ReeseM 03:26, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Three Laila Peaks in Pakistan, More Info Required
editWhen I first searched for Laila Peak on the internet, there were different heights mentioned for the peak; 6200m, 6614m and 6986m. Later I found out that there are three Laila Peaks in Pakistan [1].
I've created pages for these peaks here:
If you find more info about these peaks, please add it to the above pages.
Also, since these pages mention only one Laila Peak, I'm adding the other two to this list.
Any idea of Location of Laila Peaks? Coordinates required as well
editAdd to the confusion, the above mentioned summitpost article tells the coordinates of the Laila Peak (Hushe Valley) are 35.35000°N / 76.24000°E, whereas this Google Earth's BBS post mentions Laila Peak's coordinates as 35°35′28.4″N, 76°24′19.5″E. Upon further investigating, it appears that the latter is true because of its location (K2 and Broad Peak etc are visible from the Laila Peak, mentioned by Frederik, in ski expedition report), and I think the author of SummitPost article mistakenly put dots instead of ° signs. So I've corrected the info on the Laila Peak article. If somone has more info, please post it.
"Bei Tip"??
edit"Bei Tip" is listed on this List of Mountains in Pakistan as "Bei Tip - (7912 m) - Karakoram, Masherbrum Mts.". Apparently no information is available online for any peak named "Bei Tip".
Is it considered a separate peak? If so, it should be listed in List of highest mountains, otherwise it should be removed from the List of Mountains in Pakistan list as well. Please comment.Waqas.usman 22:50, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Bei Tip can be found on the excellent 1:100,000 "K2" topo by Mi Desheng. But I bdo not think it should be listed here because it is not a separate mountain from Gasherbrun IV. Viewfinder 23:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Elevation Inflation
editTrivor Sar: see list of highest mountains. Hachindar Chhish is given as 6870m by most authorities including all topos that I have seen. The Trango Towers' high point is 6363m on Desheng map. Viewfinder 23:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Name change
editThis should be moved back to List of mountains in Pakistan. The move to this name was a breach of a straightforward and compulsory policy. ReeseM 03:27, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Have now listed it as a {{capitalmove}}. Regards, David Kernow 11:22, 17 April 2006 (UTC)- Already redirected by User:Tobias Conradi (thanks!) but an admin will need to reconnect this talk page history. David Kernow 11:28, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- I apologize, it was my mistake based on my own assumption, I should have checked.Waqas.usman 02:39, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Please take a look at these unidentified peaks at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Unidentified_Karakoram_peaks. If you recognize any of these, please update their description and category and notify me. Thanks! Waqas.usman 23:55, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Major overhaul
edit- Added rank in 7000m+ peaks, removed rank (for now) from lower peaks.
- Added "Considerations", space image, sources, external links (borrowed from List of highest mountains)
- Added several peaks (Yatmaru, Crown, Rimo I, Rimo III)
- Fixed the heights (acc to List of highest mountains) for
- Momhil Sar (was 7343 instead 7414)
- Passu (was listed twice)
- Baltoro Kangri was 7280 instead of 7312
- Malungutti was 7025 instead of 7207
I will try to refine the page more, especially sort out the heights, and maybe add the coordinates as well.

- Some sections are not being properly displayed as of now (because of the "row span" problem), I'm trying to fix them Waqas.usman 15:44, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- Waqas - thank you for your work on this page. But are you sure that 7163m for Hachindar Chhish is correct? I do not think it is, but the evidence is not 100% conclusive. Do you have other evidence that convinces you that it really is that high?
By the way, I am not sure about 7469m for Yukshin Gardan Sar in the List of highest mountains, my most recent calculations suggest 7530m is more accurate.
Did you see my response to your identification post on my user page? Viewfinder 16:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
I fixed the rowspan issues in the table, and changed a lot of the links to be the subranges listed on the Karakoram page. Also did a little other cleanup. Didn't carefully verify everything, even in the 7000m range where I was working. -- Spireguy 02:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
"Independent" peaks
editI put back in the qualifier "independent" regarding the eight-thousanders, since that list requires a choice of cutoff. See the note I added to the Eight-thousander page. -- Spireguy 20:16, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Kashmir border dispute
editFor discussion of this, see Talk:List_of_highest_mountains#Kashmir border dispute. There may be a few peaks listed here which are in the area under Indian control, or in areas inaccessible to the military, but there are certainly not as many as 40. Please list any peaks over 7000m which are on this list, but should not be, here, and I will check them. Thanks. Viewfinder 03:21, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Wrong Link Clicking on the mountain called "Crown" for info, directs you to a page detailing the head gear that Kings and Queens wear. I will try to correct the mistake after I read the instructions on how to do so. Thanks. Eliteforce 03:45, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Merger proposal
edit- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.
I have proposed the merger of the article List of the highest peaks in Pakistan into List of mountains in Pakistan, because I think List of the highest peaks in Pakistan is a redundant article. So please discuss the merger here. --SMS Talk 19:25, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree they should be merged. The highest peaks is essentially a duplicate although it might contain a few that are not in the other article. If merged, ensure that the missing ones are added to the other article. RedWolf (talk) 03:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agree per RedWolf. -- Spireguy (talk) 03:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ok to merge Hadrianheugh (talk) 01:23, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think there is now a clear consensus that List of the highest peaks in Pakistan is redundant. However, since the other article is completely unsourced, it's not clear whether any of that info should really be merged in. Perhaps the original creator of the other article could give a citation for the data. -- Spireguy (talk) 01:41, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- Time to close merge request. Merge done (well, nothing to merge really). -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 02:58, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Mountains in Indian controlled Kashmir
editListing Rimo I and Teram Kangri in a list of mountains in Pakistan is like listing K2 at List of mountains in India. I have removed them. If they are put back, then I suggest that in the intro, "Pakistan is home to 108..." be amended to "This is a list of mountains claimed by Pakistan", or those mountains that are Indian controlled Kashmir be footnoted.
