Wrong prod...
editThe article has been PRODded on the basis of being poorly sourced. This is a reason to tag for maintenance rather than deletion. I have removed the link to a Congressman article that was unsourced and have removed all those names with no linked current article. I have taken the first few names and extracted references from the linked article and added them to this list. I recommend this is done for the remainder in order to avoid any issue with verification or potential defamation of living people. Fæ (talk) 07:00, 28 July 2010 (UTC)This article has once again been Vandalized, this lastest by someone calling them self, anonymous user 69.253.27.71. I don't know what their game is but they removed the name of the person who recruited me into the Black Panther Party, Tim Hayes, one of the names with verification. I think that it's time to put some type of lockdown on this list as many of these people are getting old. we lose some every and we don't need some clown playing around with their legacy. Well known names
editI noticed that the names of Tim Hayes and Bobby Rush have been removed from this list..two living persons whose roles in the Black Panther Party are well known. Those of us left won't be able to protect our legacy when we are gone. Having slick computer skills does not justify vandalism. Bobby a Congressman and Tim a musician and College prof. don't hide their roles in the Party.Oldpanther (talk) 09:28, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- If they are well known please add some verifiable sources to demonstrate it. If we were to allow unsourced names then we would be unable to delete "Mr Mickey Mouse" or "S. Claus", refer to Lists of people. Fæ (talk) 10:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
A couple of years ago when I first registered with Wiki Pedia myself and two other former Panthers went over this list an d spent an entire afternoon taking people off this list who were jokes and frauds and adding a very few. If you check the history of this page you will see our work. Here is a link you can check from the BPP web site with a news paper article from 1970. www.its aboutstimebpp.com/Chapter_History/pdf/Atlanta_/Atlanta_Event_17-20.pdf Since the time we cleaned up this list one of us has died. This article proves who Mr. Hayes was. And almost weekly in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution from that time you will see him mentioned.Again we are from a generation that does not always have the slick computer skills you people have. But have a legacy to protect.Oldpanther (talk) 21:17, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- I think the link is http://www.itsabouttimebpp.com/Chapter_History/pdf/Atlanta/Atlanta_Event_17-20.pdf
- I have added the citation as a footnote for Hayes and created a permanent archive version of the PDF file as a backup to the website link you gave. Should there be other names you can provide citations for, please make a note of them on this talk page if you feel unable to create suitably formatted citations in the document. Thanks, Fæ (talk) 22:57, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
Lists of names
editLists of names in this article should be sourced in accordance with WP:BLP. As there is no way of constantly maintaining linked articles, this applies to names which have a Wikipedia article as well as those that do not. Any name listed with no verifiable citations should be removed. Refer to WP:NLIST for guidance. Fæ (talk) 11:26, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
I removed the citation needed tags on Stokley Carmichael, Eldridge Cleaver and H. Rap Brown. The main article on the BPP and the individual bio entries on the three men names them as members as does the published literature on both the BPP and SNCC. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.145.176.175 (talk) 04:23, 29 December 2010 (UTC) in the lastest addition to this list someone added the name "Rick Lane dispenser of justice" while there may have been such a person in the party he is unknown to me. Not to mention there was no such position as "dispenser of justice"..this should be removed Oldpanther 20:17, 2 December 2015 (UTC) ...
Angela Davis was a member for a time; also James Carr, a prison comrade of George Jackson and author of "Bad", his autobiography.--193.175.48.16 (talk) 17:26, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
