London

A lot of estates have been added under London, some of which have very large blocks, but collectively have population notably under 10,000. Many inner London housing estates have small resident populations, including some currently listed. For example, Barnsbury and Harvist estate are listed for Islington but do not have anywhere near 10,000 residents. The largest estates in Islington are Elthorne and the adjoining estates of Andover and Six Acres may be closer to 10,000 combined.

Is it worth having a section or separate page for largest council blocks in UK, like Trellick Tower, Robin Hood Gardens etc...some of which contain '000s of residents — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.172.223.10 (talk) 09:28, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Broadwater Farm

I've removed Broadwater Farm from the list; the number of residents for the Broadwater Farm Estate is between 3500-3800, depending on how many flats are in occupancy at any given time; even if one were to include the entire Broadwater Farm area rather than just the estate, the population would still only be around 4500. Despite its reputation, it's by no means the largest council estate in Haringey, let alone London. – iridescent 00:01, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Lincoln Green and Lovell Park

I doubt that Lincoln Green and Lovell Park have a population of or near 10,000. If no one can substantiate this soon, I shall remove them. Mtaylor848 (talk) 15:20, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Lupset in Wakefield

This estate doesn't quite cross the 10,000 threshold. http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/5693DCF7-8B62-420A-AEFD-E897D075D49A/0/LupsetEstate.pdf It's on 9,116 for population. As there are three estates in west Wakefield that merge into one other and that have a combined population of about 18,000, I've added these to the list. I think that this is similar to how Wythenshawe is subdivided into Benchill and other areas. Epa101 (talk) 20:19, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Clifton in York

I'd say that Clifton, York might have a population of >10,000, but I can't find any population figures for it. Epa101 (talk) 20:01, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Definition (in relation to Clifton, York)

Probably none of the listed areas are made up entirely of council housing, but in all (subtantiated cases) the vast majority of housing in such are. Seacroft in Leeds is mostly made up of council built houses (the former village is the exception) yet with a population of 18,000 (larger then a lot of towns, to put into York terms it is probably at least as large as Selby, or two Maltons) it is fair to say it qualifies. I do not know the Clifton area of York, my experties lies mainly in West Yorkshire, however I would have said it would qualify and so will add it. If I am proved wrong it can be removed. Acomb in York may also qualify I suppose. I would have thought with my limited knowledge of the area that Acomb and Huntingdon would have been larger. Mtaylor848 (talk) 23:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Heygate Estate

Heygate Estate was removed from list as it contains only 1260 homes. There could hardly be 8 people in each flat on average. Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton City Council currently has over 22 thousand council properties that are spread over at least 19 council estates (that I can think of, off the top of my head) so I very much doubt that any have the required 10,000. Solatiumz (talk) 03:03, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Title

Council estates are particular to the United Kingdom, the current title is thus overly precise. It is also clear that we should include notable estates that may not be large. I therefore suggest renaming to List of council estates. Alternatively to be in accordance with similar articles for other countries we could rename it List of public housing developments in the United Kingdom. —--Pontificalibus 12:40, 28 November 2019 (UTC)
