Regiments
editThe word Regiments is not really correct here, is it? Units would be better. --Nantonos (talk) 21:28, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. Is there a way to change this? CsikosLo (talk) 12:42, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
- Move(in between discussion and watch) the article to a new name. Wandalstouring (talk) 13:04, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Missing Unit
editThere is no mention here of the 20th Cohort of Palmyrenes (Cohors XX Palmyrenorum equitata), which was part of the Dura-Europos garrison for nearly a century. Though not officially a unit until the start of the 3rd century, they would have formed part of the garrison from its conquest in 164. I'm adding it to the Syria table. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.210.103.60 (talk) 18:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)
- This unit is NOT missing from the table. The table contains units attested during the reign of emperor Hadrian (AD 117-38). The XX Palmyrenorum is not attested before the 3rd c. I am therefore removing it. EraNavigator (talk) 18:23, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- As the introduction clearly states: "Table I below lists auxiliary regiments during the rule of the emperor Hadrian (AD 117-38), for which there is the most comprehensive evidence. The table does not show regiments that were attested to in the 1st century but that, according to Holder, were dissolved by 117, nor those that were probably founded after 138."
- However, the title does not state this list only applies to one moment in history. It would be more useful if it included all auxilia of the Empire prior to AD 212, when the military was reorganized. And limiting this list to only the reign of Hadrian means it is a duplicate of Holder's 2003 article. But either it should be expanded to include all known auxilia, or the title changed.P.S. If this article is limited to the reign of Hadrian, it would be useful to indicate which of the units Holder lists Spaul believes are the same unit. -- llywrch (talk) 17:26, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
