editAlthough there is a link to the main article, would at least some text be useful on this page itself? Insanephantom 23:11, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
- Good idea - if think you know would be right, perhaps you could add it yourself?
Does this really require its own page?
editI don't think it does. All the characters here can either be mentioned in minor ASOUE characters or not mentioned at all. Mrmoocow 06:24, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think I'd tolerate this article. It's a large enough collection of characters to just be notable. Whereas if you had an article that was something like, say, Crew of the ''Queequeg'', that'd probably have too few characters or just be a collection of links to other articles. 217.42.68.232 08:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Justice Strauss1.jpg
editImage:Justice Strauss1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
Frank and Ernest Denouement
edit"Frank is a volunteer for V.F.D., while Ernest is a villainous member of V.F.D." Do we actually know this? I thought the books said that they could not be told apart--JustWong 13:12, 17 June 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustWong (talk • contribs)
Bruce's surname
editIs Bruce's surname definitely Spats? Although he is Carmelita's uncle, his own surname is never mentioned in the series and it is never even said which side of the family he is on, so it is not certain from the series that they have the same surname. Has this been revealed in one of the spin-off novels? George.millman (talk) 16:12, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- The section discusses this. — the Man in Question (in question) 00:20, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't think this is good enough. Firstly, are the foreign language editions even correct? This would only be canon if the author has definitely confirmed that Bruce is her father's brother. Also, who says that Spats is her father's name? It might be from her mother. Not much is known about Carmelita or Bruce's background, so I think that Bruce is really still just Bruce. The foreign editions are just circumstantial. George.millman (talk) 13:12, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- Well, you are really right, and feel free to change the section heading, but don't remove the information inside. I suppose the conclusion violates WP:SYNTHESIS and WP:ORIGINALSYN, but including the information does not. However, both Carmelita's parents are surnamed "Spats", which suggests that "Spats" is from her father's side of the family. — the Man in Question (in question) 17:56, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
I guess that is a fair point, seeing as Esme Squalor mentions the Spats fortune at one point. However, I have changed the article to how you suggested. Thank you for your help. George.millman (talk) 22:42, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
Carmelita??
editI don't see Carmelita Spats listed anywhere here. Am I missing something?Lafong (talk) 06:45, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Several characters' descriptions were deleted with this AfD; Carmelita is one of them. I've got a list of characters to add to this article, and I'll try and add them soon, but go ahead and add Carmelita yourself if you want. — Bilorv (talk)(contribs) 07:42, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Merge and retitle
editI'm proposing that the articles for Beatrice Baudelaire, Sunny Baudelaire, Count Olaf, Klaus Baudelaire, Violet Baudelaire and Baudelaire family be merged into this article. They were recently put up for AfD, but there is no reason why they can't merge here. There is some potential merit to having an article specifically for the Baudelaire family, so this needs to be discussed as well. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:27, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- Now I'm aware that this would require that the article be renamed, since this article focused on the supporting characters. If the consensus is to merge any of the content into this article, even if it's just Count Olaf, then this should be retitled List of A Series of Unfortunate Events characters, which is currently a redirect to this article. I am open to keeping the Baudelaire family in its own article and redirecting the other characters to that as the main article, then link to it via here. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:37, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- Adding on Esmé Squalor and Arthur Poe. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 11:40, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- I'd support the merging of Poe, Squalor, Beatrice Baudelaire and Baudelaire family. And the renaming of this page to List of A Series of Unfortunate Events characters. As for Olaf and the three Baudelaire siblings, I'm unsure. I think they might be notable enough for their own articles, but you wouldn't be able to tell it from their pages, which currently have barely a couple of valid secondary sources between them. Maybe WP:TNT could apply; write descriptions of them here, delete the pages and maybe someone could one day recreate the articles if there seem to be enough sources to establish notability. — Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 22:12, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
Keep it separate.
editI would strongly disagree in merging this article into the mainstream one. I say this because it is a hidden narrative within the main one; once you unlock the meaning of the the dedications this narrative unravels and it adds so many more emotional levels to the whole story. The story becomes adult. I feel as though Beatrice's article is less about her and more about this story around her that is unlocked. Perhaps it would be interesting to have a separate article for this extra section of the story. But that is just my 2 cents. JuanitaEbbs (talk) 11:21, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Where is Kit Snicket?
editKit is unarguably more imporant to the story than half of the characters listed on this page, but does not have her own section despite being mentioned 23 times -- what's up with that? (MMStinks was here. You can come yell at me for this if you'd like, or check my work) 04:31, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
- The list as it stands is in a very bad state, not conforming at all to Wikipedia's policies about giving due weight based on importance or not including indiscriminate information. So for instance, the V.F.D. eagles should not be mentioned at all, and definitely Kit should have a section of her own. You are very welcome to be bold and try to fix some of these problems. — Bilorv(c)(talk) 10:36, 4 May 2018 (UTC)
Too many details
editI think this is one of those articles with too many details making it difficult to read. I just removed the complete list of disguises that Olaf had. I really don't think that's necessary. I hope to remove the excess details in the remaining sections as well (do we need all of Violet's inventions?). If this is an issue with someone, let me know.
Also, I am glad that someone has all this information typed up so I would love to find a more appropriate setting to place it. At the moment, my thoughts lie with the fandom wiki but let me know if anyone has a better suggestion. Tripler06 (talk) 13:12, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
