Individual notability

edit

While I don't have a strong opinion regarding the subject's individual notability, the fact that so many different articles/drafts have been created for the subject suggests that this needs proper discussion rather than plainly reverting. Please bring this to AfD instead of restoring the redirect. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:11, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Because fancruft accounts are creating those articles, that doesnt means that she is notable – well, unless a general popularity among fans is enough then she is, even though she has zero solo career outside of Blackpink. Snowflake91 (talk) 19:48, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:ENTERTAINER, she has accumulated a large following, and actually has the largest amount of followers on Instagram out of all K-Pop artists. Though she has not released any solo material, she has been creating content on YouTube (on Lili Film) as well as being credited to a series of popular dance videos on YG X Academy and solo dance performances on Blackpink Tour. Josh (talk) 04:47, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
And how is a "large" fanbase defined? 50 million followers on instagram? 10 million? 10,000 likes? Per that WP:ENT point #2, literally EVERY K-pop member of the group could have an article then, even though they fail WP:NSINGER, and then you have bare stubs with poor sources like this article since after removing fan trivia, there is nothing left in the article. Snowflake91 (talk) 11:53, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Snowflake91, per {{notability}} tagging standards, is she "reasonably likely to be non-notable" or "certainly, hopelessly non-notable"? AngusWOOF (barksniff) 19:09, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
She has literally the biggest base one could get in the entire K-Pop industry, say what is large but when she already is the largest in a burgeoning scene, not much we could take away from that. Josh (talk) 20:24, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I suggest doing a deletion nom if you're worried about notability, Snowflake91, but certain idols have been given their own solo page despite a lack of proper solo activities due to WP:GNG. BTS' Jimin got one before his solo song released because he was covered as an individual idol a lot on notable news sites. Also, Biodin, I suggest locating individual coverage on her via reputable news sites for her to pass WP:GNG. Just saying she's got a big base without proving anything isn't much. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 01:03, 22 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Paul 012 and others above. Snowflake91 has a habit of repeatedly turning articles of major K-pop stars into redirects without discussion. I suggest the user read the deletion review for Harry Styles from 2013. It's long been established that popular idols can achieve notability per WP:ENTERTAINER and WP:GNG before they satisfy WP:SINGER, and this should apply to the top K-pop stars such as Lisa and others. If you think a person is not notable, feel free to nominate it for deletion, but please stop unilaterally turning them into redirects. There have been multiple complaints on your talk page. -Zanhe (talk) 21:00, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
WP:ENT is dumb and way too general, while WP:NSINGER has clearly defined criterias – again, how is "a large fanbase" measured ? In number of instagram followers, or number of trivial mentions in the media (which goes against WP:GNG criterias), or what ? Snowflake91 (talk) 21:14, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
If you think WP:ENT is too general, then start an RFC to change it. I agree the wording "a large fanbase" is subjective, but for stars ranked among the top 10 in instagram's most followed K-pop idols (all of whom have larger followings than Donald Trump, for perspective), or Gallup poll's top 20 most popular Korean idols, it's safe to believe that they meet the notability criteria. Otherwise we might as well declare that "no K-pop stars can ever be considered to have a large fanbase". -Zanhe (talk) 23:22, 28 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

The subject's personal name is Lalisa Manoban, her nickname / stage name is Lisa. If Lalisa Manoban isn't used as the page title, it should be Lisa with some disambiguator, but not combined with her surname. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:11, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

The page could use some more information on the celebrity. Under "Early Life," it would be a good idea to add this fact: Lisa speaks four languages fluently: Thai, English, Korean, and Japanese. (http://time.com/5562946/blackpink-k-pop-everything-to-know/) or a source already vetted in this article (https://www.scmp.com/culture/music/article/2157040/lisa-blackpink-thailand-raised-k-pop-singer-who-groups-main-dancer) . This has also been confirmed by Lisa herself in this video in 2017, https://youtube.com/3cPQZVcN2Sc .

Under "Career," an edit that could possibly be made would be the year change: 2016 - 2011. Lisa was the only person accepted in the 2010 YG Global Audition in Thailand out of 4000 participants. She began her training in South Korea in 2011 at the age of 14. In 2012, YG Entertainment posted a video featuring Lisa as a standout trainee in 2012 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdhLxKFcOWQ&feature=youtu.be) .

Under "Endorsements," the additional information can be provided as it strengthens the statement. Lisa has been the prime female representative of the Korean style brand NONA9ON, or Nonagon, since 2014 (https://ygdreamers.com/tag/nonagon/) . In 2018, she collaborated with Nonagon to create her first clothing line, Blackpink Lisa x Nonagon. The pieces sported her own catch-phrase “Brightest Star in the Night Sky.” She collaborated with the brand for a second time in the Fall of 2018 (https://ygdreamers.com/tag/nonagon/) . Since 2016, Lisa has been the face of YG Entertainment cosmetic brand Moonshot. Enhancing the Celine endorsement fact with "She covered Dazed Korea in a pictorial featuring their Fall 2019 Runway show." (https://www.msn.com/en-sg/news/national/showbiz-blackpinks-lisa-is-muse-for-hedi-slimanes-c%C3%A9line-campaign/ar-BBSpB0I) . Anonlisa (talk) 16:21, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: I've added the languages. The second request is insufficiently sourced (the youtube link doesn't identify her by name, and the rest of the info is unsourced). ydreamers.com is a fansite, and therefore not a reliable source. NiciVampireHeart 14:38, 22 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Consensus to move to Lisa (rapper) as Lisa (Thai rapper) is considered unnecessary disambiguation. (closed by non-admin page mover) SITH (talk) 14:57, 8 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lisa (Thai rapper) → ? – I think this page should definitely be moved; since none of the other musicians listed at Lisa appear to be rappers, the current disambiguator seems like an unnecessary distinction. Pretty much the only reason I started this discussion is because I'm not sure what to move it to. On October 17, Arianatoreblink moved the page from Lisa (Thai singer) to its current name with the rationale "She is a rapper, not a singer", but the opening sentence and infobox describe her as both, and she doesn't seem to be primarily known as either. What do you think? Vaporgaze (talk) 10:52, 1 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

The only thing I would suggest the article being moved to would be Lisa (rapper) as that directs to this article anyway, so Thai rapper is just an over disambiguation. Alex (talk) 17:05, 1 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Support moving to Lisa (rapper), and this should be moved right away per non-controversial over-disambiguation. Snowflake91 (talk) 17:51, 1 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lisa's surname is Manobal

edit

According to the Royal Thai General System of Transcription, Lisa's surname "มโนบาล" is transcripted to "Manobal", which is often confused with "Manoban" due to the pronunciation of the "". Plus, there are no official sources which show Lisa's surname is transcripted as "Manoban", Lisa only said her surname is read as "마노반; Ma-no-ban" in Korean.

Note. Notification of this discussion has been left at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Thailand.—Bagumba (talk) 02:43, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • The RTGS spelling is Manoban. It's more of a placeholder for when personal preferences are unknown though. If official sources including the subject herself use Manobal, other sources will likely eventually follow suit. We could use

Lalisa Manobal (Thai: ลลิษา มโนบาล, RTGSManoban; born Pranpriya Manobal (ปราณปรียา มโนบาล) on March 27, 1997)...

And maybe also somehow insert the IPA pronunciation: Thai pronunciation: [lá.lí.sǎː má.nōː.bāːn] --Paul_012 (talk) 06:13, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't see as many sources using "Manobal". Not sure if AllKPop is reliable for this (WP:KO/RS#UR), but it says that "she doesn't like 'Manobal', because it sounds weird."[1]Bagumba (talk) 09:18, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@ITIRIKBP I have corrected the error, however not as you mentioned. Lisa won "Most Popular Person of the Year" award for 2018 while in 2019 "Person of the Year" award. Change Name to Lalisa Manoban

Change Lalisa Manobal to Lalisa Manoban.

Lisa has stated many times that her name is Lalisa Manoban and she dislikes being called Lalisa Manobal.

If by consensus, you mean a statement that makes it undeniably true: The character for "L" in Thai (ล) when placed at the end of a word can take placement as an "N". Manobal is simply a mistranslation error as stated in the video (first link above and first link below). Lalisa has also shown multiple times that she is upset by Manobal being used in place of Manoban as her last name in Thai is มโนบาล. It is clearly Manoban when properly translated. For Lisa's sake and out of basic human decency, the least Wikipedia should do is spell her last name correctly.

FWIW, the change in the lead sentence from Manoban to Manobal appears to have been a bold change, and not consensus through discussion, which was met with WP:SILENCE until now. She is Thai, so the name in question is its romanization, and there is no obvious "correct" spelling. The last extensive discussion was at Talk:Lisa_(rapper)/Archive_1#Lisa's_surname_is_Manobal.—Bagumba (talk) 07:42, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's quite clearly established that her name is legally spelled Manobal, though she has expressed preference for Manoban, given the tendency for people to mispronounce it. Social media posts and videos by the subject should be adequate for supporting this, per WP:ABOUTSELF. The WP:Article titles policy doesn't even have to come into this, since the article is titled her stage name. Let's just move Manoban out of the footnote, mention both spellings in the lead, ("Lalisa Manobal, also spelled Manoban," or vice-versa) and be done with this. The aforementioned details can be added in the article body. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:25, 30 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Surelt if Lisa has expressed her preference for Manoban, that is what should be used in the article per Wikipedia:WikiProject Thailand/Style guide#Naming conventions? Alex (talk) 18:10, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
It also says "ideally as expressed on the person's passport or other official document", which in this case appears to be Manobal, so there's a conflict in how that guidance could apply here. (Also, it's a WikiProject advice essay and not an official guideline, so established naming conventions must take precedence.) --Paul_012 (talk) 08:58, 8 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm very upset, that when I read Lisa's link that it says "born" Pranpriya Manobal, but then later says "born" Pranpriya Manoban, I would love it to be correct when I (or others) read her link, so may somebody please explain why it's "Manoban", but then "Manobal"🤨🤔 41.114.219.103 (talk) 17:43, 3 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's actually spelled as "Manobal" but in Thai, it's pronounced as "Manoban"
To avoid confusion, she went with "Lalisa Manoban" as her stage name but officially it is spelled "Lalisa Manobal" in her passport. You can watch it in Knowing Brothers. 2001:D08:E5:B015:9407:DD79:ACD:BA39 (talk) 17:54, 12 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Yes. There's existing footnotes in the lead that say as much.—Bagumba (talk) 05:31, 13 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello I'm simply making a suggestion that the name like when you search her name Lalisa that could it possibly be changed to Lalisa because I believe she changed it to Lalisa no longer Lisa although some still refer to her as Lisa Monaban instead of Lalisa KPOPOVEREVERYTHING (talk) 17:35, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Lisa with her Moonman award image in Impact section

Is it possible to add the second image from this carousel (https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch7JQkXPgoG/?igshid=MDJmNzVkMjY=, as she is the only K-pop soloist in history to win a VMA. I know there isn’t any copyright info but I still feel it’s necessary to highlight a huge achievement in her career. Any way this is possible? Beulagpinkeu (talk) 12:17, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

It wouldn't be possible as Lisa would have to release a Creative Commons license for it to be used or get proper permission, but I don't see that happening. Btspurplegalaxy 🗩 🖉 17:32, 2 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Date format

edit

According to Wikipedia's guidelines date format used in articles should be the same as the nationality of the subject. As the subject of this article is not American the article should not use the US-format of MM/DD/YY. Therefore, would someone with editing access changes the dates to DD/MM/YY? For reference see [2] and [3] Thanks. 213.205.210.249 (talk) 18:28, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia guidelines make no mention that just because a person is not American then that means dmy dates need be used. The page has retained mdy date formats since is creation, therefore it should remain that way. ɴᴋᴏɴ21 ❯❯❯ talk 19:01, 2 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Description

edit

I just checked few songs listed under Lisa's discography, I find it disturbing that on all those songs she's defined as "Lisa of Blackpink". Hasn't she made her name prestigious enough to standout? She attained multiple awards and Guinness records, and she's still Lisa of Blackpink? Why is Lil Wayne not Lil Wayne of Young Money or Eminem, Eminem formerly of D12? This has to be addressed. dxneo (talk) 12:32, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please add a notation to TikTok GWR as it has not been acknowledged or awarded by GWR yet. Although Billboard and other publication have said this is a GWR the record is still unofficial. Stormy7 (talk) 13:56, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
