Birth date

edit

Ron Stowmarket raised the listed date of birth over on Wikipedia_talk:Identifying_reliable_sources#Surely_there_are_cases_where_YouTube_is_a_reliable_source?. After looking at sources I've re-removed the 1959 date from this article. The YouTube clip doesn't actually come into it; we don't seem to have a reliable source for her date of birth. IMDB is not a reliable source for bio information (note that it also shows her playing several roles in the early 70s that would be appropriate for a young woman rather than an early teenager), and while Googling 'linda regan 1959' comes up with plenty of sites that repeat the 1959 date, it seems likely that these are simply repeating the info from IMDB or maybe WP.

Possible confusion with Linda 'Regan' Blair, born in 1959? In any case, needs an appropriate source. --GenericBob (talk) 23:39, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I checked company records for Byroc Play Productions, of which she and husband Brian Murphy are directors. Her dob is listed as 5/11/49. So the date on IMDb (which was sourced from the 2000 book TV Times Who's Who on Television, a publication rife with errors) is ten years out.

After more research it turns out her real name is Linda Mary Drinkwater (sister of Carol) and she was definitely born in 1949 :http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=199241386&d=bmd_1412239200. Crisso (talk) 20:46, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good work, Crisso.

I'm glad that we've finally found out her real age all these years after I first pointed out on here that she couldn't possibly have played the parts she played in 1970(e.g a Bus Conductor) if she was born in 1959. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ron Stowmarket (talkcontribs) 01:06, 28 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Regarding birth dates in biographies such as this, these news items about California Law AB-1687 may be of interest:

Regarding the name "Linda Regan": is that a pseudonym or stage name that she adopted, or did she legally change her name via marriage or legal action? We've got a different birth name listed, but I'm not sure how she got from point A to point B. —C.Fred (talk) 15:41, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Her father was Peter Drinkwater who used the stage name Regan. She used that name. I've found some refs that cover most of her and family. Her sister (Also an actress/author) removed Linda from her article as well. Have found an interview that says they're not close (as if we couldn't guess). - X201 (talk) 16:17, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
The relevant point is that if Regan is just a stage name, then the intro should read "Linda Mary Drinkwater, known professionally as Linda Regan (born 5 November 1949), is a British author and actress..." —C.Fred (talk) 17:20, 15 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, The other stuff was me being a bit cheesed off at them using WP as a vector for their family differences. - X201 (talk) 06:57, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

At the moment Carol Drinkwater is listed on wpedia with parents "Peter Drinkwater" and "Phyllis McCormack", while her (full biological) sister Linda is recorded as being the daughter of "Peter Regan" and "Phyllis Drinkwater". Both womens' births were registered as "Drinkwater" with mothers' maiden surname "McCormack". Main page parental details probably should at least be consistent shouldn't they? The previous remarks that "Regan" was a stage name used by both Linda and her father Peter seem very reasonable. John2o2o2o (talk) 17:36, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

In fact, having checked the marriage indexes it is apparent that their parents names were Peter Drinkwater and Philomena (not Phyllis) McCormack. John2o2o2o (talk) 17:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
