editI will try and edit this page some over the next few weeks if time permits. If anyone has any dispute with any of my edits just drop me a note; I'll try to be as accurate as possible but there are some areas where my knowledge is more than somewhat lacking.....intellectual property certainly being one. Someone has made a really decent start on this but it's a bit bald given how complex SA law can be! -- Kit Berg (talk) 21:56, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Good to see some more hands on this page! I've been meaning to come back and add but time hasn't permitted yet. Check out the law pages for Canada, Australia, UK and US for inspiration! Maybe we can get a wikiproject going in the future. Chabalala (talk) 11:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Layout
editI suggest a revision of the layout of the article. While Roman-Dutch law and statute are definitely more prominent and are the de facto legal influences in place in South Africa, the lack of information on African indigenous law is an eyesore. The contents specifically state that there is such a thing as African indigenous law, but don't go on to explain how this functions in South Africa, or who interprets and applies it (indigenous courts; other courts may do so, too, but it really is mostly in the purview of the indigenous courts), or how the interplay between the "West" and Africa works... Customary law
editThe article states that custom is not a source of law in South Africa. This is false. African customary law has the same legal force as common law. Even putting African customary law aside, there is maritime law that has become law through custom. I'm going to flag it as dubious. If no one objects within a week of this being put up, I'm going to go ahead and alter that section to reflect customary law as a source of law. Rechtstaat (talk) 12:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC) it is stated tha in customery before it can be considered in South Africa they lok whether is reasonable,it should be exiting for a long time,it should be reconize by he community so they lok through it carefuly before they apply it and it also used as an or to perssuad so it is a source because they do constue a matter or a case out it.

Specific fields of law
editIn this section the "Common law" bullet actually links to South_African_contract_law. There is no Wikipedia page for South_African_common_law. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.161.116.190 (talk) 13:46, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
