History section clean-up

edit

I've been working on a major clean up of the article, starting with the the rides and attractions tables (I've spun off children's rides into its own table, and heavily expanded, updated and corrected errors for the 'former attractions' table. Surprisingly, several classic 1967 rides were missing!). I've also worked on other article sections in my clean up, but I wanted to discuss the 'History' section before modifying it.

So, for over a decade there's been a slanted towards recent events template. And indeed it still is, and become far worse over the past several years. Apart from a single paragraph about Expo 67, a paragraph about the Six Flags purchase, and one sentence about La Ronde in popular culture (an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark?) the ENTIRE section is just a list of ride additions Six Flags had made between 2002 and 2019. There's also some mention of rides removed in recent years, but this isn't history per say, it's just an endless list of post-Six Flags ride additions and removals. The dates are already covered in the tables below, so it's not only redundant to the article, but irrelevant for a history section in general. It may as well just be re-titled "Six Flags Ride Changes" at this point.

Before I rewrite and remove a good 85-90% of the history section, are there any objections or alternative suggestions? Perhaps move it to another section? I'm leaning against that, I don't see the information encyclopedic or even compelling for that matter. It reads more like an operations log done by Six Flag employees. There are some bits about La Ronde potentially being re-branded as a Six Flags park, and to quote, "using the rights to Warner Bros. (Looney Tunes) and DC Comics trademarks under the licensing...." which could conceivably go under a 'Future projects' sections, but it dates back to 2009. I think much of that has come and gone at this point in time, so scratch that.

I think the history section should focus on Expo 67, Man and His World and the years when the park was run by the city of Montreal. Or changes made to the park landscape and its former Expo 67 era attractions (e.g. the two loops of the Minirail that were removed post-Expo 67, the former Safari section that's now a parking lot, hovercraft and helipad at the northern tip, an aquarium and the tragedy that occurred, the drownings at Dolphin Lake, etc--where IS all that?). At any rate, just want to hear what others think before making any changes.--Apple2gs (talk) 04:11, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Reading this talk page - that sounds like a good idea. Hopefully you can find sources for it! Turini2 (talk) 21:47, 19 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
