MacTutor
editThere is a bio at http://www-history.mcs.st-andrews.ac.uk/history/Mathematicians/Hirsch.html if anyone wants to take a shot at adapting it. Stormie 21:44, Apr 2, 2004 (UTC)
- To my ear this article is plagiarized from the MacTutor article cited above. The article does not even cite that source. And even if it did, would such a clear rephrasing of a copyrighted article be acceptable by Wikipedia standards? Compare Wikipedia:Plagiarism Typometer (talk) 16:57, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- I wikified the article a bit before noticing the plagiarism problem. Fixing the plagiarism is probably easy: just cut out more of the flavor text, and stick to the simple facts (which I tried to wikify). It is probably also reasonable to split out his mathematical work from his bio; the non-math bio could be 2 or 3 paragraphs (schooling, journalistic work, family life). The MR link has a list of many of his papers. Doing a search for Hirsch in the title is also reasonable, as the Hirsch length and Hirsch-Plotkin radical are pretty well studied.
