Removal of image.

"Poor quality images (too dark, blurry, etc.) or where the subject in the image is too small, hidden in clutter, ambiguous or otherwise not obvious, should not be used." http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Wikipedia:Images#Image_choice_and_placement

Does anyone else agree? 155.69.192.113 (talk) 08:45, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

I agree. However in this particular case, all we have is the current low quality pic of her. While it's not the best, it's better than nothing...I think. Percxyz (Call me Percy, it's easier) 10:06, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
I think in this case, the picture is of such poor quality, it's not even worth using. What's the point of using an image? To identify the subject. You can hardly see it's her. –Scarce 10:53, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
I think some image is better than no image. –xenotalk 14:17, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

SNL

It seems to me that if Ke$ha is scheduled to perform on SNL, this is something that our readers would probably like to know. However, is www.gossipcop.com a reliable source? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 00:08, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Can everyone please stop edit-warring and discuss this here? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 00:15, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually, Gossip Cop might be a reliable source. According to our article, it was founded by Michael Lewittes who "served as producer of NBC's Access Hollywood, gossip columnist and news director at Us Weekly magazine, a features editor for the New York Post, and a gossip columnist at the New York Daily News." According to their about page, [1] they were "created to police the gossip industry. Launched in July 2009, it is the go-to destination for credible celebrity news. Every day the site separates fact from fiction". A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 00:29, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Even so, what makes SNL a notable enough event to be brought up. Her appearances on Ellen etc aren't here. I haven't seen it brought up as an important appearance in any other artist article except Adele where it actually kickstarted her American music career. On a side note, this user keeps adding information that other editor have removed (and accounted for) without explanation. He also has the tendency to add irrelevant and unsourced material and engaging in edit wars. Fixer23 (talk) 00:42, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
SNL isn't just any TV show, it's an institution. Of all the TV shows a musical artist can appear on, SNL is probably the most important. We're supposed to focus on content, not the editor. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 00:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Well in one sense, I wouldn't necessarily object to a small mention of it under her main article, as I agree with A Quest For Knowledge in that SNL is definitely on a bigger scale than, say, an Ellen or Jimmy Kimmel performance.
However in another sense (and moreso then the first), I believe mention of the SNL performance would actually be best suited to go in the Animal article. Here's the thing, if she were set to appear on the show as a musical guest AND guest actor, it'd be a different story. But if she's only performing a couple songs off the album (which ultimately falls under the category of "promoting the album"), it would probably be best listed in the "Promotion" section of her album article. Percxyz (Call me Percy, it's easier) 01:36, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
There's nothing that says that it can't be mentioned in both articles. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 03:08, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Obviously. But he means that it is more relevant to that article and might not warrant a mention in the article. The question is not whether in can be mentioned, it's whether it needs to be. Fixer23 (talk) 00:07, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I see nothing to indicate that GossipCop isn't a self-published source, and therefore not acceptable as a basis for BLP content. The policy is quite clear. There really ought to be clearly reliable sources confirming this by now, if it's an established fact. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 02:09, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
It's been mentioned by Rolling Stone magazine, although they use in-text attribution to SaturdayNightLive.com, a source that I am unfamiliar with.[2] A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 02:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
Rolling Stone characterizes it as an unconfirmed report ("sources tell" somebody else), not as a confirmed fact. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 02:46, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I disagree, but will honor your request to find more reliable sources. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 02:21, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
http://www.keshasparty.com/us/news/keha-snl I know how some editors are adamnant against using official artist websites, but I always believe in hearing it from the horses mouth... Fixer23 (talk) 02:26, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Well, given that there are at least 3 sources all saying the same thing, including primary and third-party sources, I think that the WP:BLP issues have now been resolved. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 02:30, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

To me I think it should be metioned considering this performance will be one of Kesha's most mainstreamed performances because millions of people watch SNL and that night she performs those millions of people will know who she is.--Anesleyp (talk) 01:32, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Keshawood

There are two winding paragraphs and a a full quote from a police officer for this non-event? 155.69.192.116 (talk) 02:24, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but coming from you that does not mean anything. You treat every single small inconsequential thing as important. Fixer23 (talk) 02:18, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

I know that. That is why i am changing my ways.--Anesleyp (talk) 17:26, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

TEMPORARY SECTION: TO BE ADDED APRIL 9, 2010

I added the cleanup tag for the Personal life section before the page was locked. Hopefully the issues raised in the edit summary can be resolved and addressed here.

My first issue is a minor one, in his/her haste to add information that he/she deemed to be "an important event", he/she began referring to Kesha by her last name even though the rest of the article clearly doesn't. Then he/she sudddenly refers to her by her stylized moniker. The only explanation is that he/she lifted the information from somewhere or he/she is just sloppy (which could be the case since I always notice formatting errors for nearly all of his/her edits).

My second issue is the relevance of all this information. The inclusion of a viral video event that did not create much of a stir except online. Two one-sided feuds (a Twitter apology? Really?) and a full explanation for a leaked track that was recorded when she was fifteen. The relevance of all the above to her "Personal life" is highly contentious as well, despite his/her's eager insistence "Everything here is somthing that is in her personal life therefore relevant to this section" (I guess Kesha is against people lipsyincing in everyday conversation).

Even if all the above stands, the section still suffers from woeful grammar and expression. I know of at least one user, User: Hullaballoo Wolfowitz who agrees that the section is not needed as he removed it in one edit only to be reverted by that other user. Some of your thoughts would be appreciated, thanks! :) Fixer23 (talk) 23:49, 3 April 2010 (UTC)

Im working on improving the section. The grammar isn't really bad. You are pretty much right about the viral video. And also your comment saying that i am just sloppy and refferring to one formatt mistake i made was clearly not needed considering this discussion is not about me.--Anesleyp (talk) 16:24, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

After evaluating the section, along with Fixer23's current points on the issue, I honestly can't see how this section could be improved. Let me just break it down with my own personal analysis on each main piece of content within the section:
Keshawood: Completely non-notable. Now had she actually vandalized the real Hollywood sign, with the situation being covered by official news outlets (such as CNN, Fox News, MTV, etc), I could understand how this would be relevant enough for the article. But the situation was indeed proven to be fake, covered by nothing more than online blogs. I just can't see how this quirky publicity stunt (that really created no publicity at all, at the end of the day) belongs in the article.
Britney Spears' lipsynching: Just an opinion (and nothing more) of Britney Spears' performance abilities that, once again, didn't create much of a stir (except among Britney's crazy fans and online blogs). And the quote was never meant in ill will anyway. Had Kesha said something like "this bitch totally sucks, she's an untalented slut who couldn't sing and dance if her life depended on it, she should just go die somewhere" and that quote created a large-scale stir reaching notable media outlets (such as MTV) and not blog sites, then I might (MIGHT) be able to understand how something like that would make it into the article - maybe! But her real quote was totally taken out of context.
Styrofoam: a leaked song from 7 years ago containing one line with Britney Spears' name in it, a line that has been (once again) taken out of context. The entire song is about "nothing lasting forever", including Britney Spears' fame. It was, in no way whatsoever, a diss toward her, and Kesha didn't even write that line in the first place. I don't believe it should be included in the article.
Justin Bieber: Alright, so she called him a "baby" and said she'd "push him around on stage in a carriage"...and?? I mean, if she had used a homophobic term to describe him, I could understand. But calling him a baby, alone, is not grounds for adding it to her article.
Anesleyp, don't get me wrong - I find it admirable that you want to contribute to Kesha's article and improve it. That's the best quality an editor can have on here, and I respect that about you. The problem here, though, is that you're not contributing anything useful to the Personal Life section, as noted by a few editors here. Kesha's Wikipedia article should not be used to point out every little "controversy" of hers, especially when those controversies amount to nothing anyway. Now given there are controversy sections in Wiki articles, but they're really for major events. Wikipedia is not here to make people look bad, nor is it to be used to point out every little opinion that comes out of somebody's mouth, good or bad. I've tried to work my way around improving and keeping the Personal Life section of this article myself, but at the end of it all I simply can't see how it can remain. Especially when there's no content about her actual personal life in the first place. Sorry Percxyz (Call me Percy, it's easier) 00:36, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Ok I see what you mean. And I can tell that your a very great experienced editor and that you know right from wrong. When the block is gone from the article, i will remove the section. When info that is really about her personal life comes out that is when I will add the section.--Anesleyp (talk) 16:38, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Instruments??

On the article, it sais that Ke$ha only plays Vocals and no other instruments. That's not true, she also plays Cowbells. If you check on the album, it sais "D.I.N.A.U.$.A.U.R - Keyboards by Max Martin/cowbells by Ke$ha/Whisle by Ke$ha and Shellback. And I think she also plays Accordion. On her album, it sais "Stephen - All instruments and programming by David Gamson exept: Accordion by Ke$ha" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hiiamoverthere (talkcontribs) 16:12, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't she also play the piano because i saw a small bit of a more acoustic version of Stephen and she was playing the piano.--Anesleyp (talk) 16:40, 5 April 2010 (UTC)

Does her Billboard magazine cover warrant a mention? What I mean is is it an important enough publication to mention? 155.69.192.59 (talk) 00:12, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Edit request from 24.12.131.151, 18 April 2010

{{editsemiprotected}} Kesha is 35 years old and apparently 'spent a lot of time' in Michigan City, Indiana. In this website, it lists her brother, Lagan Blue Sebert, which confirms that this is Kesha R. Sebert. http://www.intelius.com/search-summary-out.php?ReportType=1&qf=Kesha&qmi=R&qn=Sebert&qs=CA&trackit=74&focusfirst=1

This website confirms that she has been in Michigan City, Indiana, via the Michigan City News Dispatch newspaper/website. http://www.thenewsdispatch.com/articles/2010/04/18/news/local/doc4bc92f5c1ba96003971636.txt#blogcomments

Inteligence

In an interview with Scott Simon on NPR's Saturday Edition (January 16, 2010), Kesha reported her SAT score at 1599 (out of 1600), that she was a serious student with many advanced placement classes, having a love of physics, math and history. Seems that much of Kesha's success and precociousness may be a function of a very high native intelligence coupled with focussed hard work and a mother who spent time after school with Kesha doing such things as writing song lyrics (which both are well known for). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.6.243.243 (talk) 17:04, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

As far as I can find, SAT scores were and are reported inmultiples of ten. She may or may not be that intelligent, but I seriously doubt she scored a 1599. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.58.142.63 (talk) 16:32, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

And this begs the question of why she is writing music about parties and getting drunk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.227.250.101 (talk) 03:41, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Because they are two completely different matters. 155.69.192.110 (talk) 22:36, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Partying and getting drunk do not measure your intelligence anymore. In fact, smartest people tend to be the most outgoing. You've never watched The Big Bang Theory as far as I can see. Smart is the new sexy.--Fluence (talk) 16:41, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I rewrote the early life section to include the information from the NPR piece while removing the minor bit about Nicole Richie. Maybe it can be considered for inclusion?

Article Title Ke$ha?

As I've seen with every other article on Wikipedia, the stage name of the person is the title of the article, not their real name. So why is this article titled Kesha and not Ke$ha?--Valkyrie Red (talk) 04:13, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

This has already been discussed several times, see WP:MOSTM. Next time please read previous discussions before starting a new topic to make sure the issue has not already been discussed ..:CK:.. (talk2me) 04:42, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah I see. The article says to avoid any special characters used for decoration purposes. This is her stage name. You don't really have any proof that she is using this namely for decoration. It's more for promotion.Valkyrie Red (talk) 16:53, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
You are focusing on the wrong part of that statement. "Avoid using special characters that are not pronounced, are included purely for decoration, or simply substitute for English words". The dollar sign, $, can not be pronounced and it is being pronounced as a substitute as the letter s in her name. Or do you really think she pronounces it "Ke-dollar sign-ha?" This isn't rocket science. She took her real name, substituted the $ for the s and that is against WP:MOSTM. Any proposal to change the article to something that violates WP:MOSTM will be shot down in a heartbeat.Ciderbarrel (talk) 12:18, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

the pronounciation of her name is wrong. It is phonetically pronounced...

outdated record

The intro to this article states that Kesha broke the record for Mainstream Top 40 radio play with "Tik Tok." This is true (although it was for radio play in ONE WEEK, not "total" radio play as it seems to suggest -- check the reference), but the record has since been broken by Katy Perry's "California Gurls." (See recent Chart Beat feature on Perry at billboard.com.) Should this be acknowledged? Or should the entire fact be removed now that Kesha's record no longer stands? 24.107.137.166 (talk) 19:54, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

$ or s ?

What is the policy about writing real or artistic name of an artist in the article about them? I haven't checked other artist articles, but i was expecting the real name to be just a detail mentioned in the infobox in the beggining and once or twice in the article itself, with the artistic name being used everywhere else, including article name. --TiagoTiago (talk) 07:41, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Has been discussed time and time again. See WP:MOSTM. Avoid "using special characters that are not pronounced, are included purely for decoration". Do we say her name as Kesha or Ke-dollar-ha? The "$" is purely for decoration and does not need to be maintained. A simple note (as is already present) regarding the styling of her stage name is all that is required. Last edit

There's some new content and some edits here and there. Here is a list of things that may require discussion?

  1. Removal of Taio Cruz and 3OH!3 from Associated artists. Template:Infobox musical artist "This field is for professional relationships with other musicians or bands that are significant and notable to this artist's career. The following uses of this field should be avoided: One-time collaboration for a single, or on a single song."
  2. Removal of IPA icon. There is no audio file.
  3. Removal of lawyer's quote. Rehash of information already there.
  4. Removal of Breakthrough picture. There are already better pictures on commons. "Having one is better than none" argument does not stand.
  5. Removal of Time Out Chicago review. It's a review from a blog from its website.
  6. Removal of Max Bernstein. Not notable in itself.
  7. Removal of New Zealand. It wasn't her first number one, since we consensus has been reached on her "Right Round" credit.
  8. Removal of mini-tour and numerous television appearances information. No other artist article lists such promotional appearances unless they have significant or notable influences on their careers.
  9. Removal of awards descriptions. Superfluous and inconsistent in other artist awards lists.
  10. Removal of See also. Not conventional.
  11. Removal of influences section. Not long enough.

My Opinion.

  • 1) Removal off all associated acts should be done in my opinion, its unneeded. She is a solo artist and has only colabed with other artists a few times, doesnt insert notability.
  • 2) I dont know what the heck that is so do what ever.
  • 3) Is listed under "Career beginnings: 2005–08" needs to be moved to "Commercial success: 2010–present"
  • 4) Agree
  • 5) Fine as is, not an actual blog (i believe)
  • 6) Neutral
  • 7) Neutral
  • 8) Agree, thats what singles Live Promotion sections are for
  • 9) Disagree, i got those from Lady Gaga Awards Section
  • 10) Agree, nothing important
  • 11) Archive that incase more information becomes available, otherwise support. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 06:24, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
  • @ 1 I believe Flo Rida is acceptable since he did provide her big break in a way.
Thats true, leave as is for now. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 07:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
  • @ 3 I don't know, I just think it could be better understood in context (?)
It happened in 2010 so it should fall under that section. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 07:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
  • @ 5 I had a pretty hard time tracing back to that URL with a google search. Doesn't seem to be one of their main blogs.
Ill look it up later and message you about it :) (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 07:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
  • @ 9 Okay it can easily be reverted, but I those writeups are pretty superfluous in my opinion.
You can remove in the main page, once she gets like 2 more nominees im going to create her Awards page, ill add that stuff there, main page your right, somewhat superfluous. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 07:16, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments Fixer23 (talk) 07:06, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh, i just edited Taio Cruz and 3OH!3 in. They ARE notable in her career. Also, almost every other artist's page contains all artists or bands they sang with. i don't see why Kesha's shouldn't. Fan4me (talk) 22:39, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Not notable, Flo Rida is only included because it was her first single. 3OH!3 and Taio are only collabs, there not detrimental to her career. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 22:54, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Maybe it wasn't blown up like other sex pictures of other celebrities but there's one of kesha floating around the internet and it should be mentioned in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.186.8.240 (talk) 05:44, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

No. Not notable enough. WP:NOTNEWS. "Wikipedia considers the enduring notability of persons and events. While news coverage can be useful source material for encyclopedic topics, most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion." This is the case here. Also, reading the places that published about the scandal (there was only like 15) most state it may be her, its not confirmed. Could easily have been photo-shopped. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 05:33, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Any big outlets reported on it? Any confirmation it is her. If there is more drama around it and coverage then mention it. 15 is the start, anymore on different days, it's worthy.RAIN the ONE (Talk) 17:46, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Nope, it in no way got enough coverage. There is no confirmation its here and 99% of the reports were blogs. Wikipedia isnt blogs. (CK)Lakeshadetalk2me 21:23, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
Ahh, yeah blogs weren't mentioned, thought you meant reputable news sources... really shouldn't be included in that case.RAIN the ONE (Talk) 21:14, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Apologizes, should have mentioned they were blogs earlier. I dont believe there was even one reliable news source, probably because it was never confirmed to be her. :) - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 09:27, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Crunkcore

Kesha is sourced as being crunkcore. It should be listed under her genre. NoremacDaGangsta (talk) 17:14, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Yeah where does it say this in a source? - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 19:17, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
[3] "along with some come-on’s from crunkcore queen/special guest Kesha." NoremacDaGangsta (talk) 17:14, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
If another reviewer mentions it then it may be added. Being mentioned once isnt enough of a reason to include it. Thank you though :) - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 17:20, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Actually, if a single reliable source calls her crunkcore, that is enough for it to be added. –Chase (talk) 03:44, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
That doesnt really make sense though. He calls her "crunkcore" yet none of her songs are. ....? Check her album review its done by the same person. Adding crunkcore doesnt make sence. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 04:11, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
A reviewer for a notable publication has referred to her as crunkcore and it at least deserves a mention, be it in the infobox or the Image and artistry section, whether you agree or not. –Chase (talk) 04:41, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Songs From Ke$ha

Ke$ha made a big name comeback with tik tok and Your love is my drug. Other songs include dinosaur party at a rich dudes house kiss and tell boots&boys Back stabber My first Kiss --Diamound9 (talk) 19:20, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Listener's view

Actually Ke$ha's style of singing & lyrics of her song is fully frank , youth easily attached with & starts enjoying it . Her song is kinda moodlifter , lyrics & music is according to the generation . Her language of song is very easy ,that's why she is become very popular in many countries other than US. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.242.117.56 (talk) 18:45, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Associated Acts

As of September 15, 2010, the only associated act listed is Flo Rida. This should be expanded to include (in decreasing importance) 3OH!3, Taio Cruz, Dirt Nasty, Katy Perry, The Veronicas, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, and Travie McCoy. All of these artists are not necessary, but 3OH!3, Taio Cruz and Dirt Nasty should most certainly be included because Kesha has featured/been featured on songs by these artists. She has written/sang backup vocals for/toured with the others listed.

These associated acts should be listed because the main box provides a summary of the key points of the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.61.113.224 (talk) 01:13, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Katy Perry, The Veronicas, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Travie McCoy: no. Having written songs or sung backing vocals does not make them associated acts. I don't think anyone knows Dirt Nasty any more as "the creepy pornstache guy in the "TiK ToK" video". Ke$ha has collaborated with Taio Cruz on one song and 3OH!3 on two. I don't think these collaborations are really that significant on her solo career; these songs having not seen as much success as her solo singles. Yvesnimmo (talk) 01:27, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

1,000,000% oppose - Only Flo Rida is to be included. Ive argued this countless times. Flo-ride got her her big break, the rest are simple collaborations. They are not in any way shape or form detrimental to her career. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 01:34, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
