Initial review

edit

Lede

edit

• Place of birth should not be listed in the opening brackets, per MOS:BIRTHPLACE.

  Done.

• Unlink Finnish, as per WP:OVERLINK , nationalities should generally not be linked.

  Done.

• Add (WRC) after World Rally Championship to explain further uses of the acronym.

  Done.

• "Rovanperä won a couple of titles" language is a bit informal here. Perhaps just won two titles in...

  Done.

• "before made" > before making

  Done.

• Works driver redirects to Factory-backed, worth linking for the uninitiated.

  Done.

• I'd suggest removing the Colin McRae part from the lede, it's a litte too much info for here and go with "in 2022, he became the youngest..."

  Done.

Early life and background

edit

• "former WRC driver", use the full title and link for WRC on the first mention here. You're basically starting afresh with links in the main body.

  Done.

• Link factory driver to Factory-backed.

  Done.

• Do we know what age he started rallying? It seems a bit strange to say he was exceptionally young but not state when.

Not exactly, so I re-write the sentence to make it more accurate.

• "participation into the professional" > in the professional

  Done.

• "commented on the young Rovanperä" > commented that a young...

  Done.

2015-2017

edit

• No need to link Latvia, per WP:OVERLINK

  Done.

• Citroen > Citroën

  Done.

• Link WRC2 here when mentioned with the Skoda rather than further down.

Done. I would also like to mention that there is an ongoing RM at Talk:World Rally Championship-2#Requested move 18 December 2022. Whether using the hyphen (i.e. WRC2 or WRC-2) depends on the result of the discussion, though I personally prefer WRC2.

• I think liter is the American spelling, this should probably be litre for a Finnish national?

  Done.

• "He won the first rally, with fastest at every stage", sentence doesn't make much sense in it's current form. Perhaps, He won the first rally, setting the fastest time on every stage?

  Done.

• "despite of power steering issue" > despite a power steering...

  Done.

• "Rovanperä to clinch" to is probably superfluous in this sentence.

  Done.

• "Rovanperä a special permission" same for a here.

  Done.

• The link to Finland seems a bit like an WP:EASTEREGG. If he competed in the Finnish Rally Championship, I'd just say that.

  Done.

• "every rally on podium" > on the podium

  Done.

• "Rovanperä made WRC" > made his WRC

  Done.

This is down to the 2018–19 section for now, just so you have something to work on. I'll get through the rest as soon as I can. Kosack (talk) 19:56, 5 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

2018–2019: Steady improvement and WRC-2 Pro crown

edit

• "Rovanperä joined the Škoda Motorsport", drop the

  Done.

• "Rovanperä retained with the team for the 2019 season", sentence is a bit jumbled. Either "Rovanpera was retained by the teamm..." Or "Rovanpera remained with the team..."

  Done.

• "three more rallies for the rest of the season" > ralies during the rest of...

  Done.

• What does SS9 stand for? Might be worth using the full term if it has one?

SS is short for special stage, and 9 is the stage number. Anyway, I rewrite the sentence.

2020–2021: Top tier debut and youngest WRC event winner

edit

• "Following a couple of lacklustre", a couple again sounds a bit informal, could do with rewording

Reworded.

2022: Youngest World Rally Champion

edit

• "before went on to win" > before he went

  Done.

• "he further won back-to-back victories" sentence is a little clunky. Perhaps reword to something like " he secured back-to-back victories"?

  Done.

• "he returned form to claim" > he returned to form to...

  Done.

• "title in his career" of his career?

  Done.

• "by late Colin McRae", no need to put late, it's not relevant to the subject.

  Done.

Personal life

edit

• "Rovanperä a special permission", no need for the a.

  Done.

Rally victories

edit

• The four wins in the WRC-2 Pro series state he was driving a Skoda Fabia R5 Evo, but the source seems to state a Skoda Fabia R2 Evo?

R2 is not Rally2. Here the "Skoda Fabia R5 evo" is indeed "Skoda Fabia Rally2 evo", only the name changes in line with the regulation. You may find this according to this source.

That's about all I've got from a first run through. Kosack (talk) 07:36, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Think I've addressed/answered all issues above. Feel free to have a second look. Unnamelessness (talk) 08:13, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Minor additional points

edit

• "granted a 16-year-old Rovanperä to take part", probably my explanation but special permission can be kept here, it was just the "a" that I thought needed removing. So the sentence should be "Rovanpera special permission to take part..."

  Done.

• "In additional to enter the rallies" > In addition to entering the rallies...

  Done.

A couple of minor points and I think we're just about done. Kosack (talk) 10:08, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

All done. Unnamelessness (talk) 10:20, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Nice work. A spot check of the refs comes back good. I'm happy that this meets the GA criteria. Promoting. Kosack (talk) 10:29, 8 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

  •   Hi Unnamelessness (talk), welcome to DYK, review follows: article promoted to GA on 8 January; article is well written and cited inline throughout to what look to be reliable sources for the subject (not an expert on rallying); I didn't find any issues with overly close paraphrasing in a spotcheck on sources and Earwig was clear; hooks are interesting, mentioned in the article and check out to sources cited; a QPQ is not required. Looks good to go. My only criticism is that I don't think the number of stage wins and podiums stated in the infobox is verifiable from the information in the article and so should be cited, but it's not big enough to hold approval up over - Dumelow (talk) 18:30, 9 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the review, Dumelow (talk). A source is cited at the bottom of the infobox to complete the final jigsaw. Unnamelessness (talk) 01:19, 10 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Dumelow and Unnamelessness:   could the hook be reworded so that possible future record usurpers don't make this hook untrue? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 09:31, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
theleekycauldron (talk), added "as of". Unnamelessness (talk) 09:57, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Adding ALT. Unnamelessness (talk) 10:02, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't know much about rallying but for ALT0 presumably the 2022 season is still ongoing; would it be possible for someone to break the record this season? I prefer ALT1 with the actual dates anyway and happy to approve that - Dumelow (talk) 10:58, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
