Not a secondary affiliate

edit

After checking with the station, they said they do not have an affiliation agreement with anyone other than the CW. They do carry a few shows by other networks but this is worked out at a local level with the other local stations and has nothing to do with the corporate network. Indeed the network affiliates could go with another station if they chose. I removed the secondary affiliation because it is not in an form an affiliation

Discrepancies between KUWB and KUPX

edit

The whole history of KOOG and the transition to KUWB as told on this page is a bit different then what is said on KUPX. I am not certain of the history or I would fix it myself. Could someone with a better memory or more information help out by fixing this? A 00:48, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Channel 30 was KOOG until early 1998, when it changed to KUPX and started broadcasting Pax programming. Channel 16 was broadcasting as KUWB, and the stations traded callsigns in mid-1998. - Chadbryant 13:03, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks for fixing that. A 18:29, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Inaccurate history?

edit

The history section of this article seems to have serious inaccuracies, as it states that the station came on the air in 1997, while the infobox shows that the station was founded in 1983. The station info in the FCC CDBS database and at RecNet support the 1983 date. It looks as if the station's article was greatly expanded and quite accurate, but the original author did a major revert on March 4, 2006 (calling it a minor edit) and restored the inaccurate and sparse information. Per earlier discussion, it's the license that matters in a station's history, not its callsign, programming, channel number or owners. dhett 00:06, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

After a little more research, the 1997 date comes from when channel 16 signed on. However, that station (facility ID 57884) is not the same as this one (facility ID 1136), even though the KUWB calls and the WB affiliation used to be on channel 16. Moreover, channel 16 was not founded in 1997, but rather in 1985, when the original construction permit was issued. It just took them until 1997 to finally get the station built. --dhett 18:38, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Channel 30 signed on in 1985 while 16 signed on in 1997. The information was not so much innacurate but failed to clarify the difference between the KOOG intellectual unit which existed from 1983 to 1997 which became the KUPX intellectual unit at that time and the broadcast license. The KUPX intellectual unit moved from the Channel 30 license to the Channel 16 license in April of 1998.

Channel 16 signed on in 1997 along with the KUWB intellectual unit. That unit would move to Channel 30 license from the Channel 16 license. Yes it sounds confusing after a while.

Moving KUWB article to KUCW

edit

I was not able to move the KUWB article to KUCW to reflect the call letter change, as the article KUCW is already occupied by a redirect to the Coos Bay station's new calls, KMCB. I put in a request on 9/19 to administrators to move the article. --dhett 08:31, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Discussion

edit

Add any additional comments Someone will probably need to add an inline dab to explain these moves and make the history clearer. Vegaswikian 22:20, 19 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure I follow why this requires discussion. KUWB changed call letters to KUCW on Sept 18. I was not able to move the article to the new title due to a pre-existing redirect, so I requested that administration move the article. But for the record, I have logged my opinion. --dhett 08:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

New KUCW article

edit

I have completed a rewrite of the KUCW article, which describes the license history of the station as its official history, plus adds a paragraph about its intellectual unit history prior to the April 1998 swap. Since it represents an extensive rewrite of the History section, I have put the article temporarily on my workspace at User:Dhett/KUCW for the user community to examine before overwriting the current article. Comments are welcome; please leave them on the talk page. dhett 08:10, 16 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The new KUCW article has now been moved to the main workspace and the disputed tag removed. dhett 04:35, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merge notice

edit

It's not standard practice on Wikipedia for a television station's list of transmitters to be a separate article from the one on the television station itself. Is there a specific reason it should be allowed to stand in this case? Bearcat 10:41, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Discussion of merging these lists ongoing at Talk:KTVX#Merge notice and a related deletion debate. Cool Hand Luke 10:34, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Digital Channel Number

edit

It should be noted that as of the Digital Conversion, the channel number for CW30 (at least on my converter box) had changed from 30.1 to 4.2, this should be noted that the digital channel number should be listed as 4.2 Thewi2kbug (talk) 10:51, 15 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did another channel scan again and determined that Channel 4.2 has been reassigned to UntamedTV and KUCW has become 4.3 Thewi2kbug (talk) 00:02, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is old news by now, but I read that, at the time of the digital conversion, KUCW had technical difficulties with its own signal and "borrowed" sister station KTVX's subchannel until resolution. RichOrem (talk) 00:31, 16 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
