Rumor

edit

I heard a rumor that KBTV was bulding a new studio complex in downtown Beaumont. Any clarifications?

I think they may have recieved a building permit in downtown Beaumont and the faciltity will be the second largest structure in the city.

Can't be true. KBTV can barely afford to be in the mall. There is no way they will build a new complex. If anything they will return to Port Arthur. It's rumored that they are so below the expectations for Nexstar that they are actually trying to sell them off but no one is buying. It's too bad because the facility is really not that bad. They just need to get new managment. Their GM drops the ball on talent and everything else you can think of all the time. They can not keep an anchor for more then 6 months it seems.

I work at KBTV. We aren't building downtown. We are adding on to our transmitter in Vidor. The building in P.A. has been badly damaged through the various storms and we are moving all personnel out of that building currently. Rent at the mall is surprisingly affordable. We exceeded budget by quite a bit so we are not performing poorly. Nexstar never intended to sell KBTV, they did for some time contemplate buying another affiliation for our digital secondary channel. We have a new general manager who is amazing. With Angel being news director talent is no longer an issue. We are very pleased with all the changes that occurred. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.191.110.102 (talk) 00:29, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This article reports that KBTV was the first television station broadcasting from a shopping mall. In fact Family Television broadcast on UHF from the Poughkeepsie Plaza in Poughkeepsie NY. They bought a broadcast truck that ABC had used in the Lake Placid Olympics for 777,777.77 (I believe thats right)so in fact KBTV may be the first network affiliate in a mall but not the first television station to broadcast from a mall —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.249.242.197 (talk) 06:06, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

from wikipedia article about wfty trinity broadcasting network station: "The station signed on May 30, 1980 as WFTI-TV, a local religious station in Poughkeepsie, and was headquartered in the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall on Route 9. The station moved from Poughkeepsie to Fishkill, New York and adopted its current programming and callsign after TBN purchased the station in 1983" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.249.242.197 (talk) 06:18, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

edit

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 18:15, 10 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Update needed with regards to news operation

edit

It appears the "News operation" section of the article, in addition to fleshing out the NBC era of the now-"Fox 4 News," needs an update too. TV listings indicate that Good Day has been canceled, the 4 p.m. newscast has moved closer to a talk show format (Southeast Texas Live, which most likely is yet another newscast/talk show hybrid), and there's now a 5:30 p.m. newscast. (All this is weeknights only; weekends only feature the 9 p.m. news, which is unaffected.) Someone with a bit more familiarity with KBTV-TV (and not in the conflict-of-interest way) might want to note exactly when these changes happened… --WCQuidditch 22:48, 14 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Update needed — apparently now consolidated with KFDM now

edit

It seems that any separation of the operations of KBTV-TV and KFDM has withered away… for one, KBTV recently returned to running morning news with The Morning Showbut it's the second half of a program that starts on KFDM. (KBTV's existing newscasts remain, but none of them are in timeslots KFDM airs news.) Also, KBTV's weather section uses KFDM's weather maps. (And apparently KBTV is now based at KFDM's studios, even though KBTV's contact-us page still gives their Parkdale Mall address.) Clearly KBTV is no longer operated separately from KFDM anymore, but, alas, the usable sources aren't exactly obvious… --WCQuidditch 16:26, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
