Talk:Judd mat Gaardebounen

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Javandy in topic Judd

This article completely and I think deliberately omits, that “Judd” is actually the Luxemburgish word for “Jew”.

edit

It’s a fact that “Jew” is what “Judd” literally means. And nobody in Luxemburg associates anything offensive with it, just as “Hamburger” isn’t offensive to people from Hamburg, now is it?
Anyone thinking it’s offensive should ask himself why his mind was the one who came up with that association.

To be frank, nobody in Luxemburg actually believes that very far-fetched theory about “judia”. It’s just something the officials think they have to say to “justify” it and be “politically correct”. But everyone, including them, generally thinks it probably started out as a kind of joke. It’s generally not taken very seriously, and there are similar little jokes going around as there are for mixing up the “Hamburger” people and food.

So take the whole thing with a huge shovel of salt. ;)
I consider the association to be more positive than negative. (I love those beans in that sauce! Best side dish ever. There’s never enough. :)
