I was attempting to see if there was a family connection between Joseph Pomeroy Root and Samuel Clarke Pomeroy, a Kansas senator of the time, but if there is a connection, it doesn't seem to be a close one. J. P. Root's grandmother was a Pomeroy (Elizabeth Pomeroy Root, 1763-1825), but there were a lot of Pomeroys and I can't connect her to the senator. But the Pomeroys and Roots were both old Connecticut River valley families and intermarried a number of times, so it is all very difficult to figure out.
