Notability concerns

edit

I am concerned that this subject does not appear to meet notability requirements required for inclusion in Wikipedia, as outlined in WP:N and WP:BIO. Most of the sources provided in the article, while useful for informational purposes, are not useful for evidencing notability, as they come from NASA, the subject's employer, which is not an independent source. Of the other sources, the Douglas Wong paper (which also seems to come from NASA) only mentions Dory as a contact and in the acknowledgements; the item from Colorado State University does not seem clearly WP:RS or independent, given that Dory is an alum; and the "Colorado State University Experiment" paper does not appear to have ever been published.

I had a look on the web for other sources that might serve the purpose, but I couldn't readily find any. Accordingly, I have tagged it for notability concerns. I am happy to discuss the merits of additional sources as regards notability, if they can be found. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 07:57, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your input and your detailed consideration of this article. The Jonathan Dory article is one of a long series of articles I have been writing about aquanauts who have served as NEEMO crew members. However, the articles also need to comply with WP:N and WP:BIO. For several other articles I have found multiple independent sources, including information about the subjects' achievements and activities other than NEEMO (see, for example, Craig McKinley and Jessica Meir). However, I agree that there is a lack of independent third-party sources on Dory. I have added one more citation to the article, the Army Space Journal article, but that source is primarily about Jeffrey Williams's participation in NEEMO 3 and refers to Dory only once. I have now added additional citations from SpaceDaily and the New York Times concerning Dory's participation in the Mars Desert Research Station simulation. Gildir (talk) 17:24, 23 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
