Patrilineal descent
editPatrilineal descent is the line of descent from father to son, governing the descent of most titles in the Peerage of England. The ducal house is Seymour. On two occasions, in 1750 and 1923, the Dukedom of Somerset has been inherited by a distant cousin of the previous Duke.
