editWondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.
Should Paific be listed here as a Jefferson County City? Only a very small portion between 0-55 Acres of the city (Depends on which map you use) and 0 residents are offically in Jefferson County. Jefferson county does however consider the area south of the city to be part of it and collects taxes for the city http://www.jeffcomo.org/clerk/serv/levi.html . Jefferson county considers several miles of this area south of the city to be part of the Pacific, including firehouse #2 which is located in Jefferson County.
They however also do the same for Eureka.
- Mapquest shows Pacific running up to the Jefferson County line, but not into it. According to the above website, the only thing Jefferson County collects for is the Pacific Fire District. Fire Districts are independent of cities. I'm removing Pacific from Jefferson County.Rt66lt 17:08, 31 March 2006 (UTC)
- Also, keep in mind, Pacific and Eureka are not incorporated in the county of Jefferson at all, so I feel they shouldn't be listed as being such. I concur with your removal as well, Rt66lt. Everyone always generalizes their location like that. For instance, I might say I'm in De Soto, despite not living within its city limits. - The Deviant 16:42, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- Jefferson County collects Sewer Fees, Ambulance, and Fire District Taxes for the city of Pacific. The SBC local area maps printed in the local phone books and other maps show a Pacific Park/fairgrounds, which is not only incorperated in Pacific but also is owned by the city of Pacific, as being in Jefferson County. Map Quest does not show the park at all nor has it kept up with the annexations within the last 3 years (Pacific and Eureka city lines now physically adjion one-another and Pacific has annexed quit a bit west (towards Gray Summit), North (Towards St. Albans), and south both along old route 66 and County roads N and OO. Also Jefferson county refers to this area as Pacific.
- In addition becuase this area is in the 63069 zip code the mailing address for some of these businesses and residents say Pacific.
- It is not as stated above "For instance, I might say I'm in De Soto, despite not living within its city limits. " as their mail actually says Pacific as the address, The Jefferson County Planning Commision calls this area Pacific [1], their kids go to Pacific High School, and they vote in Pacific for elections.
- More annexations are comming in 2006 due to communities in and around this area fighting Eureka's use of a residential TIF on property (Half of this area is in these area's school districts -MVRIII and not in Rockwood which serves most of Eureka), if it would have been properly maintained for the last decade by it's current owner the city of Eureka, would have a very very high value. This and Trash Haulers desperatley need a transfer station in the area and it's a NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) type of deal and a city has more influence than a few individuals with both the courts and county commisions. The use of residental TIF and ED for residential areas (The city of Eureka will have to use ED to take property away from current home owners to give it to a developer to demolish the homes already there so they can develop new higher valued homes- as these people have already stated they WILL NOT move) is actually a very debated subject and the Eureka case has become a example of why this type of TIF and ED for residential developments should not be allowed and has spured both litigation and legislation.
Dated information regarding local officials...
editThis whole section should be updated or removed, as it is not timely at all. Any takers? The Deviant (talk) 00:41, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
