Conflicting Information

edit
Panda Energy and Carter would later acquire Jarrett's minority stake in the company in 2009, placing Carter as Owner and Chairman of TNA.[24]

BUT TNA WIKI PAGE SAYS HE OWNS 29% of TNA.ALSO JEFF HAS SAID IN 2014 that he still owns 29% of TNA.

PLEASE FIND OUT THE REAL INFORMATION AND CORRECT IT.

Wife

edit

Tell me why it's important to include in this article that his wife is dead. Nosleep1234 10:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The article summarises the life of the professional wrestler Jeff Jarrett. It would be remiss if it did not mention highly publicised aspects of his private life that have influenced his professional life. McPhail 16:01, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

From where I sit, it summarizes the career of Jarrett, to which his dead wife is NOT relavant. Why did the 'personal life' section not exist before Mrs. Jarrett's passing (which, I might add, was so heavily reported by the dirtsheets everyone seems to hate), and why does it even now list NOTHING else? It doesn't help the article in the least. I can point to a ton of articles that have no personal life section and it makes no difference in the article quality. Just because information is out there doesn't mean it warrants inclusion. Shall we also include Jarrett's favorite brand of toothpaste should that become posted on a dirtsheet?

But since I'm just banging my head against a fucking wall, I think I better just walk away and let the older kid win. Nosleep1234 09:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • The personal life section is sparse because there isn't a lot of information about Jarrett's personal life readily available. The death of his wife and the resulting small-scale media storm has brought the facts that (a) Jarrett was married (b) his wife is now dead and (c) he has three children to light. The information was not just reported by dirtsheets; David Sahadi and Jim Ross both commented on Jill Jarrett's passing. I don't think you can seriously compare toothpaste preferences to martial status and parenthood; the latter two are highly important sociological indicators and a central component of many people's lives. McPhail 14:34, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Are you fucking serious? You think Jarrett's wife's death SHOULDN'T be on this article? Are you fucking serious? Do you realize just how WRONG that is? Not in an emotional way, but from an encyclopedic way. This article is not about the career of Jeff Jarrett; it is about JEFF JARRETT! If that isn't enough for you, how about this: THE ONLY FUCKING REASON JEFF JARRETT TOOK A HIATUS FROM TNA TV WAS SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE OF HIS WIFE'S DEATH!!!! Slap Nuts

edit

What was the deal with the shirt that he wore that said slap nuts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.69.137.23 (talk) 03:27, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

To build on that, while I don't have a source, I do recall reading an article on the Internet the night prior to his coining of that phrase. Apparently it was the name of a bar Jarrett and some other wrestlers had visited. I wish I had a cite for that. 192.76.82.90 (talk) 22:16, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

No Jeff said that it started with his grandmother and he took it from there. I think you can search it on wrestleview.com and find an old interview. Miss Lindsie (talk) 22:00, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Last Match

edit

It should be noted that while it was stated at Slamiversary 08 that his match in 07 was his last match, it was in reference to his last match TO DATE, and not his last match EVER. This site makes it sound like he's retired. He in fact is not, as is evident by last Thursday's Impact! 2005 Most Overrated Wrestler

edit

Is his award for 2005's Most Overrated Wrestler really appropriate? The section is entitled "Championships and Accolades." I hardly consider an insulting award like that to be an accolade. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.178.224.194 (talk) 17:29, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

this mistake is freakin hilarious

edit

now im not even gonna bother editing this it made me laugh so much but lets have a look at the first paragraph:

Jeffrey "Jeff" Leonard Jarrett (born April 14, 1967) is an American professional wrestler currently signed to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. He is also Vice President and creative writer who founded the company with his father Jerry Jarrett. He is well known for his time in World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment. Jarrett is a 10 time World Heavyweight Champion holding the WCW World Heavyweight title 4 times, the NWA World Heavyweight title 6 times and the WWA World Heavyweight Championship twice.

now it says hes a 10 time world champion, 4 times wcw, 6 times nwa and 2 time wwa, now that adds up to 12, what retard wrote that i wonder —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.206.55.10 (talk) 06:31, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Someone change that and they also change Jarrett's Intercontinental Championship reigns to seven and it's supposedly six.Miss Lindsie (talk) 01:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Twelve time World Champion

edit

I was just wondering who is the source considering the legitimacy of his twelve reigns? I wouldn't exactly count the two from the WWA in that count. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.144.179.34 (talk) 06:06, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The belt was defended in more than one country and the promotion that owned it considered it a world championship, making it a legit world championship. Add those in with his 4 WCW World Championship and his 6 NWA World Championship reigns and the total comes to 12 title reigns.--WillC 07:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
The WCW and NWA titles are obviously established world titles. The WWA reigns, as Will said, are legitimate world titles as 1) The WWA sanctioned the title as their top championship, and 2) the WWA title has been defended outwith the country of origin. So that's two in favour of 12 reigns - it can't really be challenged anyway. Brendan Heron (talk) 22:53, 26 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Someone change that to ten. Which is right?Miss Lindsie (talk) 21:58, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Do not tell people to vandalise the article. Two solid arguments have been presented above. Feel free to present your argument here, but the intro will in NO WAY be altered without consensus here. Jarret is a TWELVE TIME world champion. Fin. 88.110.53.20 (talk) 19:47, 5 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
"the intro will in NO WAY be altered without consensus here" - his championship reigns won't be altered, period. People seem to think that the WWA reigns are somehow less valid because WWA doesn't have the same name value as NWA or WCW. WWA sanctioned the title as their world championship, and it was defended in multiple countries. We don't need to be brain surgeons here. Regardless of how much "classic status" someone considers a title to have or not to have is irrelevant - like the ROH World Championship and ECW World Championship, the WWA Championship is a 100% legitimate world title. Any further edits will be reported and viewed as vandalism. Jarrett is a twelve time world champion. It's inarguable. It's fact. Brendan Heron (talk) 05:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The WWA title is not a world title. When did PWI recognise it? When did any independant wrestling body recognise it? Every wrestling promotion considers their title to be a "world championship". It's clear bias to have it presented as a "world" championship. This needs sorted out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.71.29.190 (talk) 11:09, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

PWI has no standing whatsoever. They are simply a magazine. A title is a world title if it is sanctioned as a world title by an organisation and defended internationally, thus worldwide. Do not tell people to vandalise articles when solid arguments are staring you in the face. The article will never be altered, period. 89.168.213.42 (talk) 23:19, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
As per the moronic contribution above from 84.71.29.190 - There is no governing body which determines what is a "world title". If a promotion calls a title their world heavyweight championship, and it is defended outside the country of origin, then it's a "world" championship. PWI don't even recognize the WWE Championship - they now recognize only the "WWE Heavyweight Championship" (the World Heavyweight Championship). If you want to follow a two-bit magazine set up by a wrestling fan akin to you or I, then this merely cements your stupidity. Another person in favour of twelve reigns. If you're going to claim that the WWA title isn't a world title because you don't think it's got quite enough name value or that it isn't recognized by shitty PWI, then don't even waste your breath. RogerDeens (talk) 09:38, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Rogerdeens your wrong PWI only follow the WWE championship —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.111.123.167 (talk) 19:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nope, he's right, you're wrong. PWI follows the "WWE World Championship", which is their name for the World Heavyweight Championship. That said, there's no governing body which dictates world championships. A world title is a world title if a promotion sanctions it as one. The NWA, WCW and WWA championships were all sanctioned by their respective promotions, and were defended around the world. PWI is nothing but the opinions of a few spotty smarks - they dictate nothing (it's the same as you setting up your own magazine, gaining some popularity and claiming you dictate title reigns). Nor does the WWE for that matter. They might be the largest organisation in wrestling, but they only dictate what is a world championship within their own promotion. Think of this: they are happy to recognize the NWA Championship reigns of WWE Hall of Famers, but don't acknowledge any of its reigns within TNA (WWE.com recognizes Christian as only a two-time ECW Champion). Does the most historic world championship within wrestling cease to be a world championship because WWE spits the dummy due to a rival promotion gaining some steam? Um, no. 88.109.25.35 (talk) 23:07, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Now changed to fifteen-time world heavyweight champion, as the USWA title is now a valid world title as per Wiki consensus. Derringer08 (talk) 11:43, 4 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

WWF Championship contender?

edit

In the intro it says he never won the 'WWE' Championship (he was never in the company when it was called that, so it should be changed to F) but he was a contender for it. I've just finished watching my old tapes from 1998 through to early 2000 and I can't remember him once getting a world title shot. Can someone enlighten me? Tony2Times (talk) 12:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You'd be right in saying that he never received a world title shot during his final run, but remember that Jarrett also competed in the WWF from 1993 - 1996. In early 1995 he received a brief push as a WWF Championship contender, notably having a live series with noted contender and former two-time champion Bret Hart (one of their notable bouts was broadcast on the January 23, 1995 edition of RAW) and finally wrestling Diesel for the WWF Championship on the February 20, 1995 edition of RAW. So "While he never captured the WWF Championship, he was a challenger for the title and achieved notable championship success in the promotion" is entirely factual and correct. 88.109.25.35 (talk) 22:52, 17 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
True, he did wrestle Hart a few times and Diesel. Though as far as I know, he only ever received one clear-cut WWF title shot, so I will alter the intro to "he challenged for the title", as the current version implies that he was a consistent WWF Championship contender. But yes, Jarrett did wrestle for the WWF Championship, and this should be noted, as it is a prestige in itself for a wrestler. EdgarBacon (talk) 00:00, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

born on and where?

edit

Um...Jeff Jarrett was not born in LaGrange, Georgia or Hendersonville, Tennessee. I remember watching his DVD that he was born in Nashville, Tennessee and he was born on July 14th, 1967, not April 14th, 1967...someone please fix this! "Extortion"?

edit

The article states that when his contract expired one day before a pay-per-view title defence, "...Jarrett had subsequently extorted WWF Chairman Vince McMahon for $300,000 in order to wrestle without a contract."

I'm not sure that "extort" is the right word to use there; extortion is a crime, and McMahon would have had legal avenues available to him had Jarrett legitimately extorted him. All this is was a case of a performer who (a) had been heavily advertised to appear at a particular event, but (b) was not legally required to perform at said event. In the business world, that's called leverage; McMahon needed Jarrett to perform, and as a free agent Jarrett was able to name his price.70.26.163.71 (talk) 15:06, 21 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in Jeff Jarrett

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Jeff Jarrett's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Does anyone have a more recent Jeff Jarrett photo? This one has been up for a very long time, and is one of the much more rougher looking photos of Jarrett.
