Etymology
editWhat is the source for the given etymology from Old Persian / Iranian? The surface etymology of "Jebal Barez" is clearly Arabic جَبَل (jabal, “mountain”) + برز (b-r-z). Is the Arabic name from a folk rebracketing of Persian البرز (Alborz) as something like * اَل (al, “the”) + بَرْز (barz, “superior one”)? — 69.120.69.252 (talk) 02:40, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
- Edit: The title of the Persian article confirms the Arabic-derived name as جبال بارز.
