Talk:Jean Bassett Johnson

name and gender

edit

The name written "Jean" is most often a female name in English. It seems only fair to the reader to clarify that the subject of this article is a man, and to do so sooner than 1/3 of the way through the second paragraph ("he and his wife").

This is probably a touchy subject. There aren't many ways to do this in English without seeming to shout about it. I've changed "Johnson" in the second sentence to "he" for the purpose. --Thnidu (talk) 05:50, 10 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Thnidu: Except for a very small percentage of articles about gender-queer or transgender subjects, which should be handled with due consideration, I don't think there's any controversy about such an edit; and it is certainly helpful to our readers.
