A controversy section?

edit

Would a controversy section in this article be appropriate? Jason has had a fair share of negative attention in the past well documented on his smash wikia page.Thehack771 (talk) 22:40, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Some of it is already mentioned in the article. If at this point there shouldn't really be a controversy section because it's considered a violation of WP:NPOV according to WP:CONTROVERSY.--Prisencolinensinainciusol (talk) 04:33, 8 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Maybe we could use some longer sentences in the first paragraph.

The Aspergers Claim

edit

The article claims "Zimmerman is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome." unambiguously but the article cited is much less clearly worded. The quote from the article is “I have Asperger’s they say, but I know that I’m smart," without any real context suggesting who "they" are. The smash community has long speculated on this (there's a clip in the smash documentary of Wife doing this) and it seems just as likely that this is what Zimmerman is referring to with "they" than doctor which have given him a diagnosis. Later in the article he questions the legitimacy of aspergers as a diagnosis in general but never clearly states that he has been diagnosed personally. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LannyIsMyHandle (talkcontribs) 19:20, 14 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Mew2King (video game player) → ? – Yesterday, BP OMowe moved this article from Jason Zimmerman to its current title, citing this RM from 2018. I think it should definitely be moved again due to the unnecessary disambiguation, but I'm not sure what to. Google brings up about 330,000 results for "Mew2King" but only about 82,800 for "jason zimmerman", and many of the results on the first few pages for the latter term are irrelevant. Additionally, on Google Trends "mew2king" is the more popular search term, though "jason zimmerman" did peak in February 2012, and many of the "related" queries for the latter term are about a different Jason Zimmerman who dated Melissa Rivers. What do you think the common name for this person is? vaporgaze💬 (please ping on reply) 12:31, 9 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mew2King feels like the obvious option here. It's what he's known as in the community and most articles written about him refer to him as that. Most video game players famous for playing video games are listed under their handle, not their birth name: List of esports players. Cerebral726 (talk) 13:03, 9 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Revert the undiscussed move and close. If someone wants to pursue a move it should be done from the long-standing page title. -- Netoholic @ 19:06, 9 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
I just did. For the record, I support Mew2King. Axem Titanium (talk) 19:34, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Netoholic: et al, the move had nothing to do with this page per se, but part of the larger standardisation process about video gamer articles. It is thus infeasible to discuss it on each and every article talk page. For the general discussion though, I'd like to point to the Wikipedia policies of Recognizability, Naturalness and Consistency, all of which are met by using the game handle as article name. The policy of Conciseness is also better met by this system.
The discussion is hence not about if this article is to be moved, but if there is some reason not to move it. For instance, Jeon_Sang-wook_(video_game_player) for some reason is far better known by his real name than the game handle, which is the reason his article divert from the general standard. If there are some similar reason here, it should of course remain where it is. BP OMowe (talk) 21:14, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
The only way to know if an individual diverts from the "standard" is to discuss it individually. Please close this RM now that the undiscussed page move has been reverted. -- Netoholic @ 21:40, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Unless the consensus goes in favour of keeping the page where it is due to special circumstances, the page should be moved to conform with the standard for this type of article, and thus the RM should remain open. BP OMowe (talk) 17:30, 11 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
The proposed move no longer applies as the page has been reverted to is long-standing title. This RM should be closed and a new one, free from the corruption of that undiscussed move, be opened. -- Netoholic @ 20:21, 11 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Netoholic:, the consensus is that articles about video gamers should be named according to the praxis. There is no need to discuss the move of this article unless there are some heavy reason it should divert from the standard. BP OMowe (talk) 23:48, 15 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Every article is named per its WP:COMMONNAME without dependence or consideration of any other article. Again, this RM is over. The undiscussed move was reverted and any new move must be started separate from the taint of the undiscussed move. -- Netoholic @ 01:45, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
As you seem determined to keep wikilawyering and refuse to accept the consensus that articles about videogame-players should be titled by their handle unless they are better known under some other name, it seems there's no other option than to take the matter upwards. Jason ZimmermanMew2King – Mew2King is his WP:COMMONNAME, per [Google Trends]. It is also WP:CONSISTENT, considering comparable articles such as Hungrybox, Armada, PPMD, Mang0, Leffen, etc. — Goszei (talk) 01:47, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom.--Ortizesp (talk) 02:16, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - the higher-quality journalistic sources[1][2], don't use Mew2King to the exclusion of his full name (making it not a true WP:STAGENAME) - his full name is used when they introduce him. The correct CONSISTENT handling is to follow naming guidelines - not arbitrarily list off WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS, because in fact Category:American esports players shows many full name titles (as they all should probably be). -- Netoholic @ 13:51, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Certainly the most common name in industry news. Non-gaming-specific outlet coverage is certainly more limited, but from what I see in places like ESPN the tendency is to note his name but then use the common name throughout, similar to the numerous examples included in the nomination. I don't see why e-sports figures would be any different from, say, a musician, where sources might introduce them with their full name but then proceed to use their common stage name throughout.--Yaksar (let's chat) 21:07, 24 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • That should only be the case when the name is not the primary topic and needs disambiguation. If the page name is pointing to that page without parentheses, then the parentheses probably shouldn't be in the title.--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:58, 2 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
