Jake (video game player) → Jake (Overwatch player) – This was the original title, but it was moved by user:Maplestrip for the reason "Standardizing disambiguation". I did an analysis of the articles in all subcategories of Category:ESports players by game, and the "([Name of game] player)" formula is used by 61 articles (out of about 90 with disambiguation), while "(video game player)" is used only 8 times. I believe that the original title is the more standard disambig. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 00:09, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- The guideline is WP:NCVG, which says that the current title "(video game player)" is the correct nomenclature. Oppose a move back. --Izno (talk) 00:26, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- If that's the case, there's drastically more articles that aren't following the guideline than those that are. Should they not all be moved? The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 03:07, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, the rest should be moved. Go forth! --Izno (talk) 12:58, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose per WP:NCVG. To The Squirrel Conspiracy, eventually yes. --Gonnym (talk) 06:54, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NCVG. There is a similar issue with video game related terms which use disambiguation (gaming), which should be used only for terms which are used in non-video games. — bieχχ (talk) 10:45, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- That's expected for terms that are not video-gaming specific. If you know of some, feel free to move them in accord with the guideline also. --Izno (talk) 12:58, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Izno: I've created the move request at Talk:First-person (gaming) § Requested move 2 September 2018 — bieχχ (talk) 19:01, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose as original mover. There is a lot of inconsistency going on regarding the disambiguation of esports-related articles. There is currently no consensus yet as whether articles should be disambiguated as "video game player" or "video gamer", for example. However, during a discussion on WT:VG several months ago (forgive me for being unable to link it, but someone might be able to find it in its archive), disambiguating using the title of the specific game is generally not preferred. This is in part because athletes might play multiple video games (as is common among fighting game players, for examples), and because disambiguation is typically as non-specific as possible. As to what to do with all the other articles that use a title like "Overwatch player"? I suppose they should be moved and it would be nice to standardize it, but it all depends on who is willing to put that kind of effort into it. In the end, it doesn't matter all that much really. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 12:54, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- I think it's worth deciding on a single option first before going and trying to fix all the "Overwatch" style article names, as there is no reason why "gamer" and "video game player" are used and that would probably derail the actual move discussion. Having two options is not how disambiguation should work... --Gonnym (talk) 19:37, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per Maplestrip. Also because today he might be playing Overwatch, tomorrow he might decide to take a break from Overwatch and start playing CS instead, or become a variety game streamer on Twitch instead (like Seagull or xQc, both of whom stream/play various games according to their Twitch history). With all those choices, the "Overwatch player" will become irrelevant, however the "video game player" will still be relevant, no matter if he'll play non-OW games professionally or stream them on any streaming services, so it's preferable to use it outright without mentioning any specific game names.Omgwtfbbqsomethingrandom (talk) 22:13, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Sources
edit[1] Hiya @The Squirrel Conspiracy, looks like some of the sources in this article should be removed. For instance, the Akshon Esports video isn't a interview (self-published) source but a profile from an unreliable source. (The publication has no reputation for fact-checking or accuracy so isn't usable for statements of fact.) Would remove DBLTAP for this reason too. In general, best to leave primary source information (Around the Watch, Blitz interviews) minimal anyway, since a reliable source will cover the info if worth mentioning. You can try the video game reliable sources custom Google search for a list of vetted sources. (not watching, please {{ping}}
