i think this article would be more accessible if the "life" section was divided into manageable readable chunks

I have done some of this work but there is still a lot to go. The Linguistic Work section could be further reduced to subsections (etymology, dictionary, etc) and the biographical section needs some reorganization.209.69.41.129 18:56, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

The Girl Without hands

I welcome your comments on the fairytale "The Girl Without Hands". I am trying to understand how women were looked upon and treated at that time. I have conflicting thoughts! Can anyone offer their thoughts?

Jacob or Jakob?

I saw in many older encyclopaedias the name spelled Jakob. Am I wrong?

The modern German spelling would be Jakob, but at the time, the name was spelled Jacob, as in modern English. Sou you aren't wrong, just too modern =).

Currently there are a lot of Jakobs in the text, even though the article is named Jacob. Further to the comment above, see here for a justification of Jacob. If no-one objects I may get around to editing all the ks to cs. Spicemix (talk) 12:29, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Citation needed flag

Most of this article was pulled from the 1911 Encyclopedia Brittanica. I note that an editor has flagged an assertion directly from that text. My question is: If most of an article is based on a particular source, how would you cite individual assertions? Do you just cite every assertion with the same reference? I need someone with more knowledge on this to advise...

• I would suggest that other sources be found too. Anyway, the 1911 Encyclopedia Brittanica probably draws upon specific sources - this is what would be of interest I think. A difficult task, but surely this would be the best tack in the long run. Zigzig20s 23:37, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Citations and Tone

There are hardly any citations in this entire article, and the tone is so enthusiastic and elevated in places that it seems to be primarily concerned with extolling Grimm's virtues than delineating the facts of his life and his academic contributions. It would require a lot of work, but sources need to be added throughout and the many sections need to be rewritten with a more appropriate tone.
