World Baseball Classic

Should the number of appearances in the World Baseball Classic be zero? Seeing as they only competed in the qualifiers and did not make the main tournament, I'm not sure that should count as an appearance. Hypergoof (talk) 22:29, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

I am looking at the WBC official website. They appear to classify the qualifier and tournament differently. The Israeli players are listed on the qualifier roster [1] but not the tournament [2]. - Galatz^Talk 00:39, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Tautology as lead sentence

Even if it was true that this god-awful tautology was the way all such articles were written, I would still remove it because it is a ridiculous tautology - "The Israeli national team is Israel's national team". Read Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Lead_section- 'Use the first sentence of the article to provide relevant information which is not already given by the title of the article. Remember that the title of the article need not appear verbatim in the lead"

But it is n fact NOT the way such articles are commonly written, See for example:

• United States men's national soccer team - The United States men's national soccer team, often referred to as the USMNT, represents the United States in international association football.
• United States national badminton team - The United States national badminton team represents the United States in international badminton team competitions.
• United States men's national basketball team - The USA Basketball Men's Senior National Team,[1] commonly known as the United States men's national basketball team, represents the United States of America in international men's basketball.

Looking at the template on the bottom of the page Template:Europe baseball teams I went to 4 random pages and they all start the same way:

• Czech Republic national baseball team - The Czech Republic national baseball team is the national baseball team of the Czech Republic.
• Belgium national baseball team - The Belgium national baseball team is the national baseball team of Belgium.
• Finland national baseball team - The Finland national baseball team is the national baseball team of Finland.
• Slovakia national baseball team - The Slovak national baseball team is the national baseball team of Slovakia.

As you can see, as I stated, European National Baseball Team articles are written consistently. Also if you look at Template:National sports teams of Israel I chose 4 more random pages

• Israel national American football team - The Israel national American football team is the official American football senior national team of Israel.
• Israel national cricket team - The Israel national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Israel in international cricket matches.
• Israel national roller hockey team - The Israel national roller hockey team is the national team side of Israel at international roller hockey.
• Israel men's national handball team - The Israel national handball team represents the Israeli Handball in the different international competitions such as the World Handball Championship that are held every two years.

Granted there may be exceptions since I chose 4 out of 30ish at random in both instances, but it definitely shows a consistency. I see no reason why just this one article needs to be different than the others. - Galatz^Talk 14:59, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

there's no big mystery as why those baseball articles look the same - they were created by the same 2 editors, within 2-3 days of each other, and probably used one of the articles as a basic template. But even in that template, if you go to article written by more experienced editors like Greece national baseball team you will see "The Greek national baseball team is the baseball team that represents Greece in international play.". or better yet France national baseball team: "The French National Baseball team represents the French Federation of Baseball and Softball (Fédération française de baseball et softball) in international competitions, such as the World Baseball Classic, the European Baseball Championship or the World Cup of Baseball. ". ANd if we look at the Israeli national team example s you picked - the handball one or the cricket one use exactly the format I want to use here. Should we strive for consistency with badly written articles, or should we attempt to avoid awkward tautologies ? When Other Legends Are Forgotten (talk) 03:04, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Israel national baseball team

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Israel national baseball team's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
