Talk:Iranian women and Persian music

Latest comment: 7 months ago by Niolzc in topic Wiki Education assignment: Women and Music

Why is there a special discussion of "Iranian women and Persian music"? As opposed to what "Chinese women and Persian music"? "Iranian men and Persian music"? "Iranian women and Albanian music"? Or what?

Also, why is there a special category Category:Women in music and Category:Female musicians? Does this reflect that it is somehow special or unexpected if women make music? As opposed to mere Category:Musicians which is naturally assumed to comprise Category:Men in music and Category:Male musicians? This is the sort of special-interest agenda gone bad, or ideological cateogrization. The next thing will probably be "Lesbian Iranian women and Persian music", or "Lesbian black women and Persian music", or if you really want to push it, "LBGT black women with disabilities in Persian music". --dab (𒁳) 08:31, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lead Section

edit

Beyond the fact that there are some grammatical and syntactical errors in the Lead Section, it seems more developmental than introductory. Examples of Iranian (Persian?) women musicians comprise the opening paragraph rather than serving as illustrations of sub-categories. There is no statement in the Lead Section indicating that the article seeks to create a list of Iranian Women musicians. There is no description of what distinguishes Iranian women and Persian women, Iranian music and Persian music. Other Wikipedia articles equate Persian traditional music to Iranian traditional music to Persian classical music to Iranian classical music. This article distinguishes between Persian classical music and Iranian folk music at least with regard to women artists. With what criteria? Indeed, this article fits a "start" category and a "list" category, but would it be more useful designated as a sub-category of Persian or Iranian Music?
