Since he had the rank "lentomestari", which in the modern Finnish Air Force corresponds to "sotilasmestari" (not to "vääpeli" for sure), a better translation would be Chief Warrant Officer. I'm changing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.186.198.105 (talk) 20:59, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

F-18 at age 83?

edit

I don't really believe anyone would get clearance to fly a jet fighter at the age of 83. Is this for real? -- DevSolar (talk) 15:28, 20 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes it is for real, HävLLv 21 of Satakunnan Lennosto gave him a ride on a F-18D double seater. Did he actually had control of the plane, that i don't know, but given his prowness in FAF i do believe that he had a chance to touch the stick. Here's link with a photo of him sitting on F-18, althought this picture predates the actual flight for a year. http://www.sci.fi/~fta/fintac-6.htm 88.115.17.91 (talk) 16:56, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
The article talks about "piloting", which is somewhat different from getting a ride on a double-seater with the opportunity to "touch the stick". That's why I was confused. Perhaps someone in the know could straighten out the wording a bit. -- DevSolar (talk) 10:26, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I remember having read about this in either Siivet or Ilmailu (Finnish aviation magazines), and if my memory serves me correct then it was just as you described it. He was taken up in a two-seater, and was allowed to take over the stick for a while. --MoRsE (talk) 16:38, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
