Hafdís Ásgeirsdóttir

I was looking at this issue of Hvati, which has a list of Icelandic paralympic medalists up to 2004 (p. 21). The table lists Hafdís Ásgeirsdóttir as having won two bronze medals in table tennis. Morgunblaðið, on July 6 1984, reports on the medal tally as follows (note that this is only for the US part of the games, not the British part):

Af íslensku keppendunum tíu unnu sem áður segir sex til verðlauna á Ólympíuleikunum. Þeir eru Jónas Óskarsson sem fékk silfurverðlaun í sundi; Sigrún Pétursdóttir sem fékk ein silfurverðlaun og tvenn bronsverðlaun í sundi; Haukur Gunnarsson sem fékk tvenn bronsverðlaun í hlaupum; Oddný Óttarsdóttir sem fékk ein bronsverðlaun í sundi; Hafdís Gunnarsdóttir sem fékk tvenn bronsverðlaun í borðtennis, annars vegar í einliðaleik og hins vegar í tvíliðaleik ásamt stöllu sinni og nöfnu Hafdísi Ásgeirsdóttur.

So it seems that the two Hafdís's played a double and won a bronze medal there together. I'm not sure why the paralympics webpage does not report this, but I am willing to trust Morgunblaðið's coverage here and will add Hafdís (Ásgeirsdóttir) to this article. 2003:D5:AF2E:E600:9102:9FAF:E0C3:E661 (talk) 08:37, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
