iPad OS already existed in 2010. This is just a REdivision

If you mean "the first generation iPad ran an OS that already diverged from iOS, at the UI layer, to work better on a tablet", that's true, but there's no "RE" as in "Redivision", it's just finally acknowledging that tablets and smartphones have sufficiently different characteristics that they can't share the OS all the way up to the UI layer.
If you mean "the OSes for iPad and iPhone were separate, then they became the same, now they're separate again", no. The iPad originally ran a special version of iPhone OS 3 (yes, that's what Apple called it at the time), not anything called "iPadOS". Apple renamed the OS to "iOS" in version 4.0. iPadOS or iPadOS 13?

edit

Seeing the way this article has been written, I noticed that it's not clear if this is about the OS in general (and will become an equivalent to the iOS or the macOS article) or iPadOS 13 specifically (and equivalent to the iOS 13 or the macOS Catalina articles). We/you have to decide and write it in the respective way. —Dimsar01 Talk ⌚→ 16:26, 3 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

It's iPad OS - the "13.x" is the release level - up one from the previous iOS 12.x. 104.169.37.72 (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
In the future, this may continue to be the only page for iPadOS, along the lines of the tvOS and watchOS pages, or pages might be created for individual releases, along the lines of iOS and pages such as iOS 12 and iOS 13. Guy Harris (talk) 18:39, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
The second of those has happened - see iPadOS 13, iPadOS 14, iPadOS 15, and iPadOS 16. Guy Harris (talk) 23:25, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reads like an advertising from Apple

Disregards the huge negative critics that lead to fast and repetitious attempts to repair it .... LOL?! Church of Apple? Reality distortion field of Steve Jobs, still? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.100.31.38 (talk) 21:16, 5 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Weird redirect

edit

Going to this page will make the 'I' in the address bar change from 'i' to 'I'. Huh?! 111.88.15.159 (talk) 16:26, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

As Wikipedia:Naming conventions (technical restrictions)#Lowercase first letter says:

The MediaWiki software is configured so that a page title on the English Wikipedia (as stored in the database) cannot begin with a lower-case letter, and links that begin with a lower-case letter are treated as if capitalized, i.e. [[foo]] is treated the same as [[Foo]].

The {{lowercase title}} template is used to make the page title start with a lower-case letter, but that doesn't affect the URL. Guy Harris (talk) 17:37, 19 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Split Proposal

edit

I propose that this article be split into articles on iPadOS 13 and iPadOS 14. This article could also remain as-is, but with new articles created for iPadOS 13 and iPadOS 14. This will allow us to track the separate changes between iPadOS releases more clearly and effectively. Herbfur (talk) 06:01, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I.e., treat iPadOS the same way we currently treat macOS and iOS? Sounds reasonable to me; the only reasonable alternative I see is to treat it the same way we treat tvOS and watchOS, with separate sections for each release, but as iPadOS is more closely connected with iOS, that may favor doing iOS-style. Guy Harris (talk) 07:20, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
So KAP03 has already begun an article titled iPadOS 13. So I suppose the logical next steps may be to make the content in this article more general to all of iPadOS and create an iPadOS 14 Article? Herbfur (talk) 14:51, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Guy Harris (talk) 19:00, 23 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

About notability...

edit

I do not think iPadOS has gotten significant coverage in other sources to merit its own article. Much of the coverage is under iOS, not under iPadOS, and so I think this page should possibly be merged with iOS... Aasim (talk) 18:04, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

There are 11 secondary sources, all of which discuss this operating system, not the one for the phone, and another 11 primary. Your problem is your search, not the sources proved here. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:33, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal

edit

In reference to this discussion at WikiProject Apple Inc.

Propose we merge all iPadOS articles (13, 14, 15, 16, version history) into this article. Rationale:

  • There isn't anything that unique about each version. It's not like the super-long release cycles of Windows or (former) Mac OS X. Not that much room for expansion of these articles.
  • iPadOS should include a list of major changes in each version anyway; so why scatter things around? This could be a pretty good and in-depth article after a merge.
  • The huge detail in the version-specific articles isn't kosher under WP:NOTCHANGELOG, given that Apple gives full, detailed changelogs on their site, which we can simply link to. Changes are better described in prose, which they are. Without the tables, there isn't that much material in any of these articles, that would warrant a size split.
