editThis article is overall very interesting and it gives me a good understanding of hyperpersonal model. Just a suggestion: you can make the first part of this article (above the content) more concise since the first part should be the general information of an entry. Merger proposal
editI propose that hyperpersonal theory be merged into hyperpersonal model. As far as I can tell, the two articles are about the same topic and the title at hyperpersonal theory is incorrect, as it's a model, not a theory. This was brought to my attention by one of my students, Funkayever, who caught the issue. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
I have moved relevant content from hyperpersonal theory the page now redirects here. The remaining content was hyperpersonal theory is either 1) focused on the theorist Joe Walther or duplicated here. Cameronpiercy (talk) 17:26, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Fall 2018 Peer Review
editThis Wiki page concisely articulates the key points of hyperpersonal model at the beginning. Readers can get a useful overview from it. Also, since hyperpersonal model is an expansion of SIP, I appreciate this page include links to SIP and other relevant theories. In addition, its core section – four components of hyperpersonal model – is clearly delivered and explained.
However, below are what I think can be improved in this page:
1. Graph: Since hyperpersonal model talks about a dynamic process, it might be better to include a graph to illustrate how people interact in online communication from hyperpersonal perspective.
2. Applications: What is now included in application and examples section seems more like more specific or further researches of Hyperpersonal Model, rather than real applications. Are there any specific areas can be taken as examples to display the practical use of the theory? (For example, online dating or online marketing)
3. First section: I think it is better to make the first section “impersonal, interpersonal, hyperpersonal” more concise and explicit. The main purpose of this section now seems unclear to me.

editThere is a lot of information to process on this page. Including visuals may be useful to make the information easier to digest. The following sections present an opportunity for the inclusion of flowcharts: Impersonal, Interpersonal, and Hyperpersonal; and Elements. The flow of the page should also be changed to increase ease of transition between sections, such that "Related Theory" can be moved to be placed after the "Examples and Applications" section. As for the Applications section, it would be a good idea to merge them into subsections instead of having all the information in bullet points.
I would probably make a separate section for comparing FtF and CMC, instead of keeping it in the "Related Theory" section, since that is the basis of the model, emphasizing the importance of CMC. I would position this section somewhere in the beginning and label it as Background for the theory. This source should prove helpful. This source is already included in the Applications section.
Additionally, I would create a subsequent section named "Conditions" for the theory. In that section, I would take the second paragraph from the Overview section and expand on it.
Perhaps, the SIP subsection under "Related Theory" can be taken out and be included in a "Development of the Theory" since the Hyperpersonal Model is actually based on SIP and is one of the many successors of the SIP theory. This source should prove helpful and can help make the Hyperpersonal Model easier to understand.
To sum, a possible outline for the page can be:
A Shortened Overview
1. Conditions and Key Components (instead of Elements -- it's too vague)
-- this section would include the 2nd paragraph from the Overview --
And then the four subsections describing the key components
2. Development/Foundations of the Theory
2.1. FtF vs. CMC
2.2. SIP theory
3. The Three Phases of Hyperpersonal Model: Impersonal, Interpersonal, Hyperpersonal
4. Examples and Applications of the Theory
-- with proper subsections --
5. Critiques
6. Related Theories

CCTP Anna Yu review and comments on the page
editI reviewed the page and found that the biggest issue about this page is that there is another Wiki page for Hyper-personal model, which is basically talking about the same theory. I do think it would be better to merge these two pages into one under the Hyper-personal Theory. I also think that the sections are messed up and not quite clear. The reference I want to add on are below: Bouvier, G. (n.d.). How Facebook users select identity categories for self-presentation. Journal of Multicultural Discourses, 7(1), 37–57. doi:10.1080/17447143.2011.652781 And as for the related theory part, Goffman, E. (1959). editI added two sources to the section of "Examples and applications". And the length and display of this section bothered me. Maybe categorization would help if you put the examples and applications in one field together and give them a subsection title. Or maybe timely ordered would also make it more organized.Yvette72 (talk) 02:34, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
