The office title of this church is the Hungarian Greek Catholic Church (Hungarian: Magyar Görög Katolikus Egyház). It is also referred to exclusively as Greek Catholic in everyday language. Unless there are objections (with reference to sources suggesting otherwise), I will move this page to 'Hungarian Greek Catholic Church' and correct the references within the article. The article fails to mention the most important item: why this church came to be? Those orthodox priests abandoned their churches and moved under the umbrella of Vatican for a very worldly reason: they were threatened with losing their legal rights as a free person and become serfs, which semi-slave status existed in Hungary until 1848. Only the Pope had enough power to prevent that, so they abandoned their churches for Rome affiliation, rather than become legally null people like the forced labour peasants. 81.0.68.145 20:19, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Catholic Church naming conventions RfC

edit

There is currently an RfC at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Catholic Church)#RfC: should this page be made a naming convention that may be of interest. Chicbyaccident (talk) 09:50, 4 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
