Human T-lymphotropic virus seems to explain better than this page.tosendo (talk) 12:39, 14 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Source for virus rename

edit

Can anyone provide a reference for the statement the name HTLV-III (aka HIV) has been reused to name a different virus? I can find no credible reference for this statement.el Chingón 13:57, 22 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

The reference appears to have been added. -- Beland (talk)

Treatment

edit

As with other infectious virii i believe this page should include current and proposed treatment plans. 81.105.162.252 (talk) 13:11, 23 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

If so, the article should explain that more clearly. I've created a Treatment section to this end. Is there a reference for the claim that there is no effective treatment? The article seems to imply that anti-retrovirals help. It should be stated explicitly whether or not an infection can be cured, as with early aggressive HIV anti-retroviral therapy. Info about any serious work toward producing potential future treatments would also be relevant. -- Beland (talk) 02:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have added more information to the treatment section on the treatment of adult-T cell lymphoma that can result from this virus, and the treatment of HLTV myelopathy. My current impression is that their is no effective antiviral drug for the treatment of HLTV infection.Immunize (talk) 23:52, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Prevalence of symptoms

HTLV-I seems remarkably common, and yet I've heard little about it. How often does it result it any disease? -- Beland (talk) 02:46, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some removal of sourced information

edit

@Bensonandhedges, I don't quite understand this edit. Why was some sourced information removed, and some unsourced information added? Nakonana (talk) 23:19, 13 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Information removed:
  1. The epidemiology of HTLV-1 has been fairly well established across many countries globally. It's very odd to say knowledge is "limited".
  2. The first statement regarding Japan as having the highest prevalence for any country is also incorrect. Many west African countries, Latin American countries, Caribbean countries, Melanesian and Asutraliasian countries have substantially higher prevalence than Japan.
  3. I added valuable information on the epidemiological characteristics of HTLV-1, before proceeding to state prevalences for various regions. Previously, the Epi section dived straight into country rates, without much information on the general patterns and distribution characteristics typical of HTLV-1. Im happy to add citations. But these amendments enhance the readability and accuracy of the article.
