House fire
editHis WWI service record throughs up an interesting little snippet, in March 1938 his house was destroyed by fire while he was off campaigning for that year's election. His campaign medals were among his possessions which were destroyed, which is why it gets into his service record as he requested (and had to pay for) duplicates to be issued.
