Factuality of the duel with Arthur McCluskie?
editThe seemingly well-researched article on the Harvey County Historical Museum website [4] dismisses the story about the duel mentioned in the article in American Cowboy [2] as a fabrication by a sensationalist newspaper writer named E. J. Harrington (aka Allegro) who wrote the original article about it for New York World in 1873. It even shows a photo of Hugh Anderson's tombstone and a scan of his obituary proving he died in 1914. Unless I get an objection I will change the section about the duel to "Later Life and Alleged Duel with Arthur McCluskie" and reword the text to reflect that [4] proves the duel story to be a case of yellow journalism/misinformation.
